Clarice Ose

Clarice Ose, age 93, of Gary, Minnesota, died on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, MN.

Clarice Opal Dahl was born on January 7, 1932, in rural Gary, MN, to Olaf and Cora (Hagy) Dahl. She was baptized and later confirmed at Ness Lutheran Church. Clarice attended rural country school before graduating from Gary High School with the Class of 1950. She met the love of her life, Larry Ose, and the two were united in marriage on March 22, 1952, at the Rindal Parsonage. The couple began a lifelong partnership built on love, faith, and hard work. They made their home in the Fargo–Moorhead area, where Larry was employed at the Veterans Hospital before returning to the Gary area to begin farming in the 1960's.

Clarice and Larry worked side by side, farming and building a life filled with strong morals, family values, and a tireless work ethic. Her hands were rarely idle-whether she was helping with farm work, cooking, or tending to her home. Above all else, she was a devoted and loving mother to their seven children: Linda, Mary Jane, Julie, Larry Jr., Sandy, Brian, and Keith.

When time allowed, Clarice found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved gardening, baking, playing cards, and taking the occasional trip to the casino and watching Wheel of Fortune. She treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making every gathering special. Clarice had a remarkable gift for remembering birthdays, never missing one, even among extended family and friends. Her door was always open, and the coffee pot was always on, just in case someone stopped by for a visit.

In February of 2005, Larry passed away and Clarice continued to live on the farm until the fall of 2022, when she moved to the Mahnomen Assisted Living Center. Most recently, she made her home at the Fair Meadow Assisted Living in Fertile, MN. Her and kindness will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Clarice is survived by three sons: Larry Ose Jr. of rural Hawley, MN; Brian (Nicole) Ose of Mahnomen, MN; Keith (Angie) Ose of Harwood, ND; three daughters: Linda (Mark) Engelstad of Minneapolis, MN; Julie (Wayne) Oertwich of Crookston, MN; and Sandy (Chris) Mjelde of Moorhead, MN; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings: Marion Rude, Lillian Bennefeld, Norman (Leona) Dahl, and Walter (Eileen) Dahl; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Larry; daughter, Mary Jane Doak; grandchildren, Ashley Oertwich and Christopher Doak; son-in-law, Gary Doak; daughter-in-law, Kathy Ose; her parents, Olaf and Cora Dahl; siblings, Harry Dahl, Carmen Dahl, Florence Drellack, and Janet Nelson; brothers-and sisters-in-law: Vernon Rude, Beverly Dahl, James Bennefeld, Elmer Drellack, Roy Ose, Arnold Ose, Elmer Ose, Willard Ose, Alfred Ose, and Joe (Audrey) Ose; and many extended family members.

Clarice's legacy lives on through the family she so lovingly nurtured, the values she quietly modeled, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and grace.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Ness Lutheran Church, rural Gary, MN. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2026, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Ness Lutheran Cemetery, rural Gary.
