Clark Hawthorne Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ames Monument & Cremation Center on Feb. 3, 2026.
Clark Hawthorne, 63, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Accura Healthcare in Ames following a long illness.

A celebration of Clark's life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the Ames Elks Lodge, 522 Douglas Avenue, Ames. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories.

Clark was born on April 25, 1962, to Robins and Marilyn Hawthorne. After graduating from high school, he became a painter by day and an artist by night. Work never felt like work to Clark when he was surrounded by friends.

In his younger days, he enjoyed scuba diving in Turks and Caicos. After returning to Iowa, he met Heidi and her children, beginning a partnership that spanned more than 30 years. The kids were always eager for a painting project, and Clark was happy to help. He cherished his time with his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow.

Clark enjoyed collecting rocks, carving walking sticks, and gathering around bonfires. He lovingly cared for his dogs, ducks, and chickens. Known as the life of the party, he kept everyone laughing with his jokes and unforgettable stories. He shared countless memorable moments with his buddies over the years and always cherished time spent with friends.

Clark is survived by his children Amanda (Tim) Lien of Ames, Matt (Tommy) Vincent of Ames and Traci (Travis) Sayre of Bondurant; two grandchildren, Kinsley and Willa Lien; and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his life partner, Heidi.
