Julie Schubert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ames Monument & Cremation Center on Mar. 9, 2026.
Julie Ann Schubert, 77, of Ames passed away Friday, March 6th, 2026. Julie was born on December 19th, 1948, in Forest City, Iowa to Richard and Imogene Schubert. She grew up on their family farm outside of Britt, along with her five siblings. Julie graduated from Luther College in Decorah, where she was a proud member of the Nordic Choir.

Julie accepted a job at Parks Library at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in 1973. A few years later, she and Dennis Goodrich met while jogging at State Gym and were married June 5th, 1977.

Julie had a lifelong passion for music and singing. She enjoyed cooking, baking, watching old movies, doing crossword puzzles, and building community through Collegiate United Methodist Church, where she sang in choir, serenaded babies at baptisms, and helped cook for Wednesday night Soup Suppers.

Julie is survived by her husband Dennis Goodrich, daughters Christine Goodrich (Steve Mindham) and Rachel (Jeremy) Schulz, sisters Kathy Huisinga, Mary (Mike) Anderson, Betty Schubert, and sister-in-law Cindy Schubert.

She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Imogene (Fox) Schubert, siblings Joyce (Schubert) Bolte and Russell Schubert, brothers-in-law Allen Bolte and Harold Huisinga, and her beloved dogs Buffy and Lili.

Julie's family is thankful for the wonderful care she received from Maggie's Place at Northridge Village in Ames, where she spent her final days.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 13, 2026, at 10:30 am at Collegiate United Methodist Church, 2622 Lincoln Way, Ames, with lunch to follow. Memorials may be directed to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration.

Julie and I sang together in the Collegiate United Methodist Church's Chancel Choir for many years. We also attended the Wednesday night soup suppers the church held to foster community and feed the hungry, no questions asked. One April day, Julie and two friends serenaded me with a German trio birthday song ... what a hoot! I felt so overwhelmed and loved through their gracious gift of music. Another time, I remember that Julie, having accumulated a large number of T-shirts over the years, decided that she would wear a DIFFERENT T-shirt everyday, and see how long she could go. I believe the streak was over 100 days! I am sending love to Denny and the rest of Julie's family.

I know Julie through Maggie's Place. My sister is Dar Erickson. I so enjoyed her. She sang while I was visiting at least 2 times, a Nordic song from her choir experience and Happy Birthday to my sister. Just wanted to extend my sympathies, my thoughts and prayers to you. I enjoyed visiting with her.
She radiated her love of music. What a sweet soul.
