Ronald Eide Obituary
Ron was born in Forest City on December 18, 1933. He grew up in Leland, attending High School in Forest City. After attending Waldorf College, he married LuAnn Mathews in 1953 and continued his education at Luther College. Ron taught High School in Britt where all four children were born. During that time, he pursued his Master's Degree attending Luther, UNI and Michigan before moving to Bainbridge Island, Washington.
After several years of living his dream in the Pacific Northwest, the desire to be closer to family brought them back to Forest City where Ron began a long career as a Chemistry Professor at Waldorf College and retired in 1992.
Throughout his life, Ron was an avid sportsman enjoying fishing, hunting and golf. Ron and LuAnn owned several Airstream trailers and traveled throughout the United States and Canada. Ron was a devoted husband and father.
Ron is survived by his wife, LuAnn and four children: Ronna of Panora Iowa, Suzanne (Cheryl) of Clive, Joel (Debbie) of West Des Moines and Rosanne (Daryl) of Boone. He also has five grandchildren, Jennifer Plagge, Kory Brown, Hannah Eide, Kaitlynn Eide and Erik Gill and two great grandchildren, Hallie and Harper.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Loretta Eide of Leland, and sisters Kathy Slotvig and Janice Armstrong. A family burial will be held at a future date.

I just learned of Ron's passing - what a huge loss. My deepest condolences to his family. I served with Ron on the faculty of Waldorf College for his last 10 years there (I was the Biology prof). Ron was generally quiet and friendly, but also a serious, no-frills Chemistry prof - I appreciated that he placed academics as top priority at the college. He was a good mentor for my early years, there. I've missed him since his retirement and will miss him even more now.

Mr. Eide was an excellent chemistry professor and I very much appreciate his skill and professionalism. He set me on the path to a chemistry degree and medical school. I will always remember Mr. Eide with gratitude.
