Clark Eugene Loeffel passed away unexpectedly due to a stroke on November 14, 2025, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Clark was born to the late Eugene and Arlene (Kolpitcke) Loeffel on July 4, 1953, in Wausau, Wisconsin. He graduated from Wausau West High School in 1971. He married Ann Marie Wermund on May 21, 1977 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Wausau.

In his younger years, Clark tended bar at the Pine Bar in Wausau and at Clearview Lodge in St. Germain, where his easygoing nature and quick wit made him a favorite among regulars.

Clark and Ann started their family with the birth of their daughter, Gina. The Loeffels created a lifetime of memories camping, snow and water skiing, hunting, and fishing. His unmistakable laugh, loving spirit, and collection of classic dad jokes lit up every gathering. He treasured family time and a good fish fry. Clark also held an especially soft spot for his grand-dog, Caico, who knew him as the beloved “treatman.”

Professionally, Clark dedicated 37 years to Northern Welding Supply Co. (later American Welding and Gas). He began by delivering industrial gases before moving into Fire Extinguisher Sales and Service, where he not only worked skillfully but also trained others and led inspections with pride and professionalism.

Known by so many for his remarkable gift of conversation, Clark had an unmatched ability to connect with others. He was a great listener; genuine, present, and endlessly curious. Whether sharing stories, swapping jokes, or simply passing the time, Clark could find something to talk about with anyone. His long, quality conversations are now cherished memories for countless friends, coworkers, and strangers who quickly became friends.

Clark loved life deeply, and in his later years, he became even more generous with his time and talents. He volunteered at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, driving the EZ Rider to help families navigate their visits. He served faithfully by mowing the lawn at his church, St. Mark’s Catholic Church, and was a greeter and docent at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. Clark valued being a member of the Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council, No. 4628, Schofield, and Wausau Elks Lodge 248. He was presented the Impact Award by the Central Wisconsin Convention & Visitors Bureau for his positive impact and dedicated years of donating fire extinguisher services and education to area events

He also knew how to have fun. Clark was a Kansas City BBQ Association judge, traveling around Wisconsin to taste and judge some of the state’s best barbecue. He enjoyed time with his card club playing 500 and treasured a recent Caribbean cruise with Ann. He looked forward with hope to one day experiencing an Alaskan cruise.

Clark’s attitude toward life is a testament to his one-of-a-kind character. Living for many years with a progressive disability, he never complained or let challenges define him. Instead, he continued to try new things, stay active, and embrace every day with optimism. His resilience inspired everyone who knew him. He will be remembered for his big heart and his big laugh, and his extraordinary ability to make people feel seen and valued. His spirit lives on in the many lives he brightened simply by being himself. In keeping with his generous heart, he chose to be an organ donor, hoping to bless others even in his final moments.

Clark is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ann M. Loeffel, Schofield; daughter, Gina (Ritik) Singh, Mooresville, NC; brothers-in-law, Lyle (Sue) Wermund and Steve (Marcie) Wermund; sisters-in-law, Mary (Jerry) Jacobson and Jane (Jim) Ford; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Warren and Virginia Wermund; and brother-in-law, Dave Wermund.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, November 24, 2025, at St. Mark Catholic Parish, 602 Military Road, Rothschild, with The Rev. Balraj Thotta Saminathan celebrating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the church. Additional visitation will be held from 3:00 -6:00 PM on Sunday, November 23, at Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 2809 Jelinek Avenue, Weston. Interment will be in Chippewa Catholic Cemetery, Chippewa Falls on Tuesday, November 25.

The family extends their gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and compassion from family, friends, and caregivers during Clark’s last days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Clark’s honor to Aspirus Health Foundation (Memo Line: Aspirus Volunteers), St. Mark’s Catholic Church, or to the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association to advance CMT Research.
