I first met Claude in 1978 as I recall. I was an Engineer in General Engineering at the time and he was in Charge of Transmission Line Construction. We seemed to "click" right away when he asked me where I had grown up. When I told him Monticello he told me about a time when he had to build a new line across the river near downtown and went out in a boat and shot an arrow to the shore so that they could pull twine across the river and then a rope so that they could pull the wire across. I was fascinated by his ingenuity and creative ability. We became friends that day and in the next few years I had several design projects that he built. Claude was always very cordial and personable as well as a great soul to work with. My thoughts are with his remaining family at this time and I'm sure that his loss will be felt by many as he was certainly an outstanding employee and friend to many. Jim Hallar
