Robert Romano Obituary
Robert Stephen "Steve" Romano, 41, of Valparaiso, passed away March 10, 2026. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Romano (Kennedy); and three children, Reese, Payton, and Dominic. He is also survived by his parents, Robert and Mary (Soulcheck) Romano of Valparaiso; his sister, Courtney Romano (Dan Romo); as well as his in-laws; several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Stephen and Kay Soulcheck of Arnold, PA; and his cousin, Benjamin Soulcheck of Michigan City, IN.
Steve loved fireworks on the 4th of July, listening to Tom Petty and Pink Floyd, watching The Sopranos, and most of all watching the Chicago Bears with his family. His family will miss his kind heart, giving spirit, wealth of sports trivia, silly faces, and his own special jokes and sayings. He graduated from Valparaiso High School in 2002, and was a dedicated employee of U.S. Steel Gary Works.
A celebration of life will be held at Journeyman Distillery at 258 S. Campbell St., on Sunday, March 15th from 1 pm to 4 pm. Friends and family are encouraged to come and go as they please and wear Bears gear or blue and orange. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Romano family to support his children.

Steve was a good man and a good coworker. I've had the pleasure of working with him the past 2+ years and one of the things that stood out to me wasn't just his work ethic, but Steve would go out of his way to speak to you. If he saw you 8 times in a day he would speak and give you a fist bump. He will truly be missed. May the LORD comfort his family and friends and I pray that God gives you all peace that surpasses all understanding.

Steve was my neighbor for many years. He was a kind and cheerful man, who without fail, always had a heartfelt smile and a big friendly wave for everyone that passed through the neighborhood. In this way he was not only friendly and welcoming but also ever watchful and vigilant of our neighborhood and streets. By simply smiling and waving people began to drive more respectfully in our neighborhood. Because of Steve our community was a safer and a brighter place indeed. His kind and cheerful hello and warm smile will be sadly missed!

Steve worked for me in several different capacities at USS. Beyond being a great employee, Steve was always found with a smile and was quick with a jab letting me know I should convert from a GB Packer fan to being a Bears fan! He will be missed in the workplace but more importantly for the wonderful uplifting guy that he was!
