Claude O. Hanks, Jr., 86, of Dover, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, following a period of declining health.
Born in Dover on March 6, 1938, he was the son of the late Claude O. Hanks, Sr., and Esther L. (Fazenbaker) Hanks.
After graduating from Dover High School, Claude proudly served in the US Navy as a Corp Man for 6 years. After his service with the Navy, Claude returned to Tuscarawas County where he began serving his community. He served with the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s office for many years and as a Midvale Police Officer for 6 years.
Claude worked for Armco Steel for 32 years. He then went to school and became a journeyman machinist and worked for Allied Machine for 9 years.
In his free-time Claude enjoyed shooting, and was a trustee for Tusco Rifle Club for over 15 years. He also enjoyed working in his yard and watching the OSU Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. His great joy in life was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Haney) Hanks; son, Brent (Denise) Hanks; daughter, Michelle (Christopher) Holt; grandchildren, William (McKenzie) Rhodes, Britni (Eric) Prysi, Brooke Eichel, Christian Holt, Katarina Holt, Cassidy Holt, and Colleen Holt; great-grandchildren, Charlie, and Gracie; sister, Ellen Adams; brother, James (Susan) Hanks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jack Adams.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM in the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Ave. Dover. A private graveside service will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
