Claude H. Roberts

Claude H. Roberts, of Saco, Maine, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on January 17, 2026. He was born on November 29, 1929, in Milton-Freewater, Oregon, the son of Clarence and Ivy (Lee) Roberts.

Claude was raised in Hoquiam, Washington, and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1947. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. Following his military service, Claude attended trade school, a path that eventually brought him to Waltham, Massachusetts, where he met the love of his life, Claire Beaudoin.

Claude and Claire were married on November 28, 1959, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned decades. Together they lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Lancaster, California, where they started their family with four children, before settling in Saco, Maine, in January of 1974. Claude first worked for General Electric in Somersworth and later began a respected career at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as an electronics technician in Shop 67. He dedicated twenty years of service to the shipyard before retiring at the age of 65.

Claude was a member of the Elks for 71 years and was the longest-tenured member of the Saco Elks Lodge. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Biddeford and Saco Country Club. Claude also loved camping with his wife, spending time with close friends, spending time with his grandchildren, playing cribbage, and restoring his cherished 1957 Thunderbird, of which he was immensely proud.

Claude was known for his caring nature and gentle humor. He was always mindful of others and never failed to remind family and friends-no matter where they were in the world-to "say hi to anyone I know" and to "be careful." His warmth, thoughtfulness, and quiet devotion to those he loved will be deeply missed.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Claire; his parents; his daughter, Kelly; and his brothers, Harold "Pepper" Roberts and Oscar Roberts.

Claude is survived by his son Cary Roberts and wife Myla of Ålesund, Norway; his son Brook Roberts and wife Allyson of Bow, New Hampshire; his son Tracy Roberts and wife Jennifer of Saco; his daughter-in-law Joyce Stevens of Biddeford; his sister Shirley Potter of Wildomar, California; his brother Allan Roberts of Torrance California; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford, Maine. Burial will take place in the spring at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
