Claude Winborn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Aria Cremation Service and Funeral Home - Northwest Highway on Dec. 14, 2025.
January 6, 1947 – November 29, 2025
Claude De Winborn, Jr. was born on January 6, 1947, the second child of Dr. Claude De Winborn, Sr. and Norma Wells Winborn, arriving between older brother Richard Wells Winborn and younger sister Marsha Lynn Winborn-a position that suited him perfectly. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 29, 2025, at the age of 78.
Claude attended the Selwyn School in Denton, Texas, a place he remembered often and talked about with enthusiasm, usually accompanied by a good story (or three).
A graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Claude spent 31 years at Texas Instruments as an electrical engineer. Brilliant, inventive, and delightfully clever, he could fix almost anything-sometimes whether it was broken or not.
Adventure was never optional for Claude. He learned to fly small planes, explored the underwater world through scuba diving, and traveled to Fiji, Cozumel, and Belize. He enjoyed orienteering, loved his bicycles and motorcycles, and was always happiest with a destination (or at least a good excuse to get moving).
He was a loyal member of the Thursday Night Group, meeting at White Rock Lake to run or bike before gathering in the parking lot to solve the world's problems over beers and laughter. For decades, Claude was also a devoted member of the Hash House Harriers-proudly known as "a drinking club with a running problem." He completed 21 marathons, including races in Dallas and New York City, apparently never deciding that one or two would be enough.
Claude married Susan (whose last name none of us can remember) in 1996; the two later divorced in 2004, remaining part of Claude's long list of life stories.
He is survived by his sister, Marsha Lynn Winborn of Santa Fe, New Mexico; his best friend, Heather Giovanini; and his extended families of the Hash House Harriers and the Thursday Night Group, all of whom were lucky to have him.
Claude was a generous, loving, and steadfast friend, a kind soul with a quick wit and an adventurous heart. Life was better, funnier, and more interesting with Claude in it-and he will be deeply missed.
