Claudia Brandes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 4, 2012.
Claudia L. (Bashaar) Brandes, 44, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away peacefully Friday, May 4th at her home in Waynesboro, PA with family at her side. Born November 24, 1967, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Robert and Deborah (Smith) Bashaar. She graduated from Upper Dublin High School, Maple Glen, PA , with the class of 1986. Claudia pursued a degree in elementary education at Salisbury University, Indiana Purdue University and Wilson College, though her passion was her husband and four daughters. Claudia and her husband, Paul S. Brandes, were married on October 24, 1992. Having moved from Indiana to Paris, France, Claudia and Paul focused on broadening their children's horizons with experiences that encouraged them to always look forward. They have been a part of the Waynesboro community since 2001. For 6 years, Claudia coached swimming and taught Senior Aquatics at the Waynesboro YMCA. Claudia was not only a Coach but a source of incredible encouragement to children, friends and families-not just her Swimmers. She touched the lives of many people with her kindness, generosity, and giving nature. Claudia was inspired by every child she met. She was a faithful member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waynesboro. She regularly taught Sunday school and participated in activities in the church. Celebrating her memories are: Paul, her husband, Morgan, Cassidy, Hannah, and Ava, her daughters. Her siblings: Mark D. Bashaar, and his wife, Leslie, Los Angeles, CA; Cynthia L. Bashaar, San Francisco, CA; Tracy D. McMillan, and her husband, Bill, Olathe, Kansas; Matthew R. Bashaar, and his wife, Patty, Sellersville, PA; her aunt and uncle, Kathy and Gary Fox, Bryson City, N.C. and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 8th at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St. Waynesboro. A Prayer Vigil will begin at 7:45pm. The services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 9th at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Rev. John Bateman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial donations be made to: Caring Touch: 215 W. We still speak of her often in our family. I can't believe it's almost been ten years. Every time I do a French-braid on my daughter, I always giggle about how absolutely wildly tight Auntie Claudia would pull our hair into the braids. But they stayed in all day! I loved our trip to Paris to visit the family. She and my mom took me, my sister Kate, and Morgan to Disneyland while we were there. I cried because I was too little to ride one of the bigger rides, so Claudia said, "Meg your bday is coming up- you'll be 8. So about about we ride your favorite ride EIGHT TIMES to make up for it??" She asked some local women how to say, "We are super girls" in French, and the rest of the time we were in Paris, we all kept yelling it out to each other. I found a birthday card from Claudia years after she had passed and inside it she wrote that phrase in French. I keep it near and dear to my heart. I know my mom Karen misses her extra, but I'm sure my dad David is keeping her company in heaven. Morgan gave me words of comfort after my dad passed in 2020. She said, "I'm not sure how much mischief you're allowed in heaven, but I'm sure my mom and your dad are pushing the limits together!" Made me laugh so hard. Paul and the girls- We Hulls love you so much. And to Claud.. I'll see ya later "sister pickle!"

Claudia was a wonderful spirit I feel fortunate to have known. She was a wonderful life long friend to my sister, Angie and on behalf of our family, we wish yours peace and strength. God bless you.
