Claudio da Silva Carvalho, a devoted husband, father, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully at home on August 17, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on April 26, 1946, in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Armando Bastos de Carvalho and Julita Laura da Silva, Claudio lived a life of steadfast faith, perseverance, and profound love for his family and community.
He married his beloved Leni dos Santos Carvalho in December 1972 in Rio de Janeiro. Together, they raised four children: Alexandre da Silva Carvalho, Claudia Carvalho Perry, Lucia Carvalho Fitisemanu, and Gabriel da Silva Carvalho. Claudio's happy and caring nature left a permanent mark on all who knew him. During his last few years of life, and particularly in his final weeks, he fought beyond what seemed humanly possible against illness, clinging to hope and determination to remain with his loved ones a little longer.
In his faith, Cláudio found one of his greatest joys. Serving as bishop in Jacarepaguá and later in the stake presidency, he never saw himself as a "pillar," but simply as a father and friend to all. He had a special affection for the youth in the Church, whom he inspired with his testimony and love. More than anything, he left a legacy of service done with the heart, showing that spiritual strength comes from kindness and love for others.
In his professional life, he obtained a master's degree at the Instituto Militar de Engenharia (IME), where, as a Navy officer among Army peers, he excelled in rigorous mathematics courses. He generously tutored colleagues, believing knowledge was most valuable when shared, earning a commendation from the general director for his efforts.
The Heavens have been anxiously anticipating his arrival, and now, free from the limitations of this mortal life, his talents are undoubtedly multiplied a hundred-fold as he reunites with Leni.
Claudio was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Leni, who passed on July 11, 2021; and his grandson Joseph Horne Carvalho. He is survived by his children: Alexandre, Claudia, Lucia, and Gabriel; his younger sister Celia (Laudiceia) Carvalho Valle; and seven grandchildren: Sarah Carvalho, Elana Carvalho, Gabrielle Fitisemanu, Alexandra Fitisemanu, John Perry, Noah Carvalho, and Oliver Carvalho.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 3970 S. 5200 W., West Valley City, UT 84120. Visitation (closed casket): 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. in the Relief Society room. Interment will follow at Pleasant Green Cemetery, 9200 West 3500 South, Magna, UT 84044. A luncheon will be provided after the burial.
Claudio's life reminds us that faith endures, love conquers, and hope never fades. He never gave up, and neither will those he inspired.
Palavras Finais de Cláudio:
Meus queridos amigos e minha amada família,
Primeiro, obrigado.
