Claunette Wheatley Morgan passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024, in her hometown of Washington, Georgia, where she was also born on April 23, 1948. A beacon of love and selflessness, Claunette's life was a testament to the enduring power of kindness and the strength of family bonds.
Raised on the Wheatley family farm on Wheatley Road in the Metasville Community of Wilkes County, Claunette's roots ran deep in the soil of her birthplace. She attended Washington Wilkes High School, graduating in 1966, and furthered her education at business college, acquiring skills that would serve her and her community well throughout her life.
Claunette's heart was always where her home was. She married her beloved husband, Perry Morgan, and together they built a life on the very same farm she grew up on. Their home became a nurturing ground for their three children, Beth, George, and Gerome, and was later filled with the laughter and joy of their grandchildren, Kaelyn, Rachel, Garrett, Austin, Will, Morgan, and Blake.
While she embraced the role of a homemaker during her children's formative years, Claunette's dedication to her community was evident in her work. She served as a 4-H program assistant with the Wilkes County Extension Service, worked for Dr. Wills, and played a crucial role in modernizing the Wilkes County Stockyard by transitioning their systems from handwritten to computerized entries. Her professionalism and work ethic left a lasting impact on those she worked with.
In 2008, Claunette chose to retire and dedicate herself to the care and nurturing of her grandchildren. She relished in the joys of babysitting and could never do enough for them. Whether she was cooking their favorite meals, joining in a game of soccer or baseball, or simply being there for them, Claunette's love for her grandchildren was boundless.
Claunette's character was marked by her humility, kindness, and selflessness. She was always the one to offer help, asking, "What can I do to help you?" Her loving and thoughtful nature made her a cherished member of Rehoboth Baptist Church since childhood, where she lived out her faith through acts of service and compassion.
She is survived by her husband of 55 ½ years, Perry; daughter, Beth Morgan; sons, George Morgan and Gerome Morgan; brothers, Douglas Wheatley and Herman Wheatley; and her treasured grandchildren, Kaelyn Morgan, Rachel Morgan, Garrett Morgan, Austin Morgan, Will Lamar, Morgan Lamar and Blake Lamar. Claunette was preceded in death by her parents, George and Sara Hopkins Wheatley, and her brother Wallace Wheatley.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2p.m. at Rehoboth Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1pm until the hour of the funeral in the church sanctuary.
