Mr. Harold “Clay” Cook, 66, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2024. He was born September 3, 1958 in Surry County to the late Gurney William Cook and Iris Demie Holcomb Cook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Bobby Gray Cook, Betty Gay Cook McBride, J.A. Cook (James Arthur), Sudie Fay Cook Draughn, and Larry Ray Cook. Clay loved his Mtn. Dew, Johnny Cash and traditional country music. He enjoyed bingo, coloring, and playing his guitar. Clay always looked forward to participating in the Special Olympics. He attended Surry Community College, graduating from the Adult Basic Education Class. His favorite restaurant is Duke’s on Country Club Road where they would fix their Cordon Bleu especially for Clay every time he would visit and Paul would give him a kiss on both cheeks to welcome him back. Clay is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Gentry Family Funeral Service. A service to celebrate Clay’s life will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM in the Gentry Family Chapel with Rev. Don Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Fall Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Clay’s physician and buddy, Dr. Franklin Watkins, for always being there for Clay during the easy and the hard times, and also the staff and leadership at Clemmon’s Village II for their loving care, and always going the extra mile for Clay. They would also like to thank Shelia Cowan of Boonville group home for the special place she made in her heart for Clay, and the staff of New Horizon’s.
