Clay Coon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sharkey Funeral Home on Oct. 29, 2025.
Clay Coon, age 50, of Jayess, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He was born Wednesday, September 3, 1975, in McComb, MS and is the son of Jerry and Sylvia Coon.

Clay was a member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church and a 1994 graduate of Parklane Academy. He continued his education at Southwest Mississippi Community College and Delta State University. In his younger years, Clay was an outstanding baseball player and an avid animal lover. He was a lifelong New Orleans Saints fan (even when not winning) and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

Before his passing, Clay made the decision to become an organ donor. Family recently learned that he is already lined up to help 10 people on waiting lists. He encouraged others to consider organ donation as an option.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Alvie Coon and Hewitt Cothern; grandmothers, Zula Mae Coon and Elon Sylvia Boyd Cothern.

He is survived by his father, Jerry Coon and mother, Sylvia Cothern Coon of Jayess, MS; brother Scott Coon and sister-in-law Maria Coon of Fort Worth, TX; nephew, Matthew Clay Coon (Olivia) of Pittsburgh, PA; niece, Madelyn Coon (fiancé Matt Hartzell) of Greenville, SC; nephew Nolan Coon (Kelsie) and great-nephew, Cooper Coon, of Pittsburgh, PA.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, 8 November, at 11:00am at the Enon Baptist Church cemetery.
