Clay was born to the late Nelwin (Pope) Yockey and Gene Yockey.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his cherished sisters Bonnie Sue Yockey and Patricia Yockey, whose memories he carried with him always.
He is survived by his devoted wife Ellen, who was not only his partner but his friend. He also leaves behind his loving sister, Judy Linch, who shared with him countless memories.
Clay was a proud father to his daughters, Susan Wilson and her husband Billy, and Jennifer Crane and her husband Troy. He also held a special bond with his son-in-law Kevin McDonald and step-son Tim Scott and wife Jessica. His grandchildren were his pride and joy: Bryan Stigler and wife Ninfa, Becca Hall, Bradley McDonald and wife Sarah, Thomas Hooper and wife Katelyn, Baylee Bobo and husband Mackenson, Brook Roberts and husband Blaine, Kaci Burkhalter and husband Gabe, Dallas Scott, Brilynn Scott, Tanner Scott, and Connor Scott. He especially delighted in being a great-grandfather to Kaci and Gabe's children, Bellamy, Ellie, and Anderson; who referred to him as "Papa Lay" and spent every day with him and brought him endless joy and laughter. He is also leaving behind countless other great-grandchildren: Haven Stiger, Brayden Stiger, Makynlee Hall, Casen Stiger, Braxton Hall, Holden Stiger, Kendall McDonald, Kohen McDonald, Easton Hall, and Kimber McDonald.
Beyond his love for family, Clay had many passions that defined his life. He could often be found with a fishing pole in hand, enjoying the peace of the water. He had a gift for woodworking, creating pieces that were not just works of art but lasting reminders of his care and craftsmanship. His loyal dog, Scarlett, was his constant companion, bringing him comfort and happiness every day. Though his absence leaves an ache in our hearts, we take comfort in knowing he will live on in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and in the countless memories shared with family and friends.
A family visitation will be held from 6:00 - 7:00 pm on Monday, August 25, 2025 at the Gordon Center, 305 N 2nd Ave. Durant, Oklahoma.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Bokchito Cemetery, Bokchito, Oklahoma with Bro. Ross Phillips officiating. Tim Scott, Johnny Ashby, Gabe Burkhalter, Blaine Roberts, Kevin Roberts and Kevin McDonald will serve as pallbearers. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gordon Funeral Home, 221 N. 3rd, Durant, 580-916-9090
