Clayton S. "Clay" Foster

Clayton Foster, 82, passed peacefully in Wilmington, Delaware, on November 15th. Clay was a wonderful husband and father, son and brother, grandfather, train enthusiast, electrical engineer, and UD basketball superfan. Raised near the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire, he moved south to begin his career at DuPont, developing communication software that facilitated the manufacturing of a variety of products, including Tyvek, Nylon, and Lycra. He traveled all over the world in this capacity.

Clay was a man of deep faith and was committed to truth, fairness, and social justice. He led efforts to bring the United Church of Christ to Newark, Delaware, and was a founding member of the NewArk United Church of Christ, formed in 1979. Clay volunteered at the Wilmington & Western Railroad as both a conductor and an engineer. He served on the Board of Adjustments in Newark, Delaware, and volunteered for a suicide hotline. He gave much to his community until his health limited him.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; daughters, Karen Allaway and Debbie Baxter; and grandchildren, Connor, Isobel, Bodhi, Kyle, and Finley.

The family will be holding a private ceremony at this time, with a celebration of life to be scheduled at a later date.
