Funeral and Cremation Service of Pine City - Swanson ChapelClay Johnson of Brook Park passed away surrounded by family at the University of Minnesota on August 25, 2025 as a result of cardiac arrest at the age of 51.
Clayton William Johnson was born May 5, 1974 in Moose Lake, MN, to Harvey and Bonnie (Lewellin) Johnson.
Clay always lived life adventurously his own way. Growing up, he always looked forward to deer camp and hunting season. He loved being out in the back forty cutting wood and causing a ruckus. Sneaking out with his older siblings and buddies, just enjoying country life.
Becoming a father was the role that defined him most. Just a young man himself, he proudly claimed Justin as his own son and later welcomed three daughters, Steffany, Samantha and Hailee. Clay lived for his children and anyone that knew him would say the same. His world revolved around his children and later, his grandchildren.
As a father, he was untraditional. Perfectly imperfect. He was full of youth and spontaneous adventures. Every day was a new day. Creativity never lacked. Everyone enjoyed a good Clay story with all the animations. Lawn mower rides, three wheeler rides, and gathering berries for a “gooseberry” pie. Random adventures in the woods and most of all his willingness to be goofy and childlike with his children will always be remembered.
He inspired strength and grit, resilience and boldness, playfulness and silliness. An understanding of self was instilled in each child. He was not ashamed to show his failures in hopes they would do better. He was raw and real with zero tolerance for anything fake.
He was proud to be a dad and especially proud to be a grandpa . His heart had no limits when it came to his children.
Clay is survived by his son Justin (Jessica) Barnett; daughters Steffany, Samantha and Hailee Johnson; eleven grandchildren; mother Bonnie Johnson; sisters Lara (Neil), Lisa and Lacy Johnson; along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, friends and his boy-os, Jake and Spazz.
He was preceded in death by his father Harvey Johnson; brother Wes Johnson; grandparents Lawrence and Gladys Lewellin, George and Virginia Johnson.
Interment will take place at 10:00 AM; Saturday, September 6, 2025 at the Brook Park Cemetery, Brook Park, MN. A luncheon will follow later that afternoon at 2:00 PM at the Rock Creek City Center, 7000 MN-70, Pine City.
