Cleone SCHWEIM Obituary

June 2, 1935 - October 6, 2025

Spokane - Our beloved mom, sister, grandmother, and friend, Cleone A. Schweim, passed away on October 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on June 2, 1935, in Ray, North Dakota, to Lois Gronseth.

Cleone will be remembered for her sharp wit, kind heart, graceful spirit, and the warmth she brought to everyone around her. She found joy in life's simple pleasures - gardening, cheering on her favorite sports teams (the Seahawks, Mariners, and Zags), and indulging in what she fondly called "retail therapy." She had a lifelong love for chocolate, cinnamon rolls and Diet Coke, and she was always just a phone call away.

Cleone's home was a welcoming place, filled with laughter, good food, and thoughtful, stylish gifts - especially during birthdays and holidays, when she brought the family together for celebrations that created lasting memories.

Professionally, Cleone began her career in bookkeeping and office management at Eugene Flowers, later embarking on a 32-year journey with Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. It was there she formed many cherished and lasting friendships.

She shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Dexter "Dick" Schweim, until his passing in 2013. Together, they raised four children and embraced the adventures of life as a military family and small business owners.

Cleone was fiercely independent, a master negotiator - but above all, she was the steadfast pillar of our family. Her strength, love, and legacy will continue to guide and inspire us.

She is survived by her brother, Gerry Gronseth (Hong); her children, Brenda Benn (Lonnie), Brad Baker (Jane), Stacy Ritter (Pat), and Suzanne Fouts (Dan); grandchildren, Erin Cruz, Adam Benn, Axel Baker, Madeline Ritter, Megan Fouts, Sidney Ritter, and Jordyn Fouts; and great-grandchildren, Jaelee, Ja'Jandra, Jazmyn Cruz, and Ryan Benn.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all.

A Funeral Service and reception will be held on Friday, October 17th, from 11:30am-1:30pm, at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home, 5100 W. Wellesley, Spokane, WA. A burial for Cleone and Dexter Schweim will follow at 2:30pm, at Spokane Memorial Gardens, 5909 Cheney Spokane Rd.

First and foremost words cannot express how truly sorry I am for the loss of your mom,Cleone.
We worked together at Eugene's and our friendship blossomed. Cleone would be working on a daily balance sheet and would be off by a few cents. So she would reach down into the bottom drawer, grab a handful of M&M's to help her balance for the day! As we all know how much she loved her chocolate!!! I have so many beautiful memories enveloped in my heart.
Thank you Suzanne for dropping me a card to let me know if her passing.
My deepest sympathy to all of you. My love and prayers at this time.
Respectfully,
Reyne Finley

Dear Suzanne, Thank you for sending me a card telling me about your dear Mother's passing. Her last year's Christmas card was returned to me, and her phone was disconnected, and I didn't have your contact information. Thank you for telling me when her funeral is, and I will be there. Both your parents were amazing people. Sincerely, and with great sympathy, Respectfully, Sue Betts

I remember working with Cleone before she retired.
I recall her as a pleasant, helpful, kind, friendly professional. A joy to work and interact with.
