Cletus was born on November 29, 1958 in Manning, IA, and he was the son of Clifford and Anita (Freml) Cook. He grew up in Wall Lake where he graduated from high school in 1977. Following high school, he began working for Joe P. Frank and Sons Plumbing and Heating where he worked for several years before going to work at St. Anthony Regional Hospital, the Carroll Manor, and for the Osterlund family. Cletus also managed the Applewood and Fairview Village Apartments and owned and operated Small Home Repairs. Cletus then found his dream job of driving a semi. He loved that job and loved delivering seed to the dealers. In his early days of school, the teacher would always tell Cletus that he cannot make a living looking out the window all day. He proved her wrong because he made his best living looking out the window of the semi as he drove many miles. Cletus was married to Jane Bernholtz on August 18, 1979 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. Cletus and Jane had three children, Cory and twins Casey and Cletus Jr. Cletus enjoyed spending time at their home in Lake View riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing, and fixing most anything. He was the greatest father and grandfather to his kids and grandkids. He will always be remembered for his unique laugh.
Cletus is survived by his wife Jane of Carroll; son Cory Cook (Jessica) of Polk City; son Casey Cook (Caitlin) of Carroll; six grandchildren: Cameron, Cohen, Collins, Ivy, Leo, and Mya; his mother-in-law Mary Bernholtz of Carroll; a sister Donna Solt of Fayetteville, NC; three sisters-in-law: Vicki Jung (Jeff) of Sioux City, Joni Vallier (Greg) of Council Bluffs, and Jill Brandenburg (Roger) of Omaha; three brothers-in-law: Dan Bernholtz (Shari) of Sioux City, Steve Bernholtz of Des Moines, and Jeff Bernholtz (Carol) of Estherville; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cletus was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Anita Cook; his son Cletus Lyle Jr.; his father-in-law Dale Bernholtz; a sister Bonnie Lavaas; two brothers: Russ Cook and Gene (Linda) Cook; a brother-in-law Tim Solt and sister-in-law Debbie Heath.
