Clifford G. Down passed away on September 4th, 2025, after an extended stay at Glendale Home in Glenville, NY, where he received excellent care by the staff.
He was born on June 28, 1938, in the farmhouse where he was raised on the corner of Swaggertown Rd & Droms Rd in Glenville NY. He graduated from Burnt Hills High School in 1956 & served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. Cliff worked with his oldest brother, Roland J Down, for over 2 decades at Roland J Down, Inc. After that, he branched out on his own to become a home builder in his hometown area. Most notably, he developed Woodcliffe Estates in Clifton Park, NY.
Cliff loved spending time with his horses & for years competed in shows all while maintaining beautiful stables for his horses and other boarders. His hobby and passion for Bluegrass Music grew as he attended many festivals as a member of the Adirondack Bluegrass League. If you spent any time with Cliff, he was known to sing one or two of his bluegrass favorites. He was also an ELK member for over 50 years.
Clifford was married to Eugenia (Genie) Richter Down before divorcing several years ago. Survivors include his daughter, Shirley Down Coreno (Matt) of Mechanicville, NY; grandsons Matthew Coreno and Patrick Coreno and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews; Cynthia Down-Taylor, Pamela Down, Kenneth Down, Penny DeLoreto, Candace Ahlquist and Randall Down. Clifford is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Marion Stevens Down, his brother Roland James Down, John Mark Down and his sister, Norma Louise Down.
He is also survived by Suzanne Preville, who began to work at the horse stables 25 years ago. Over the years, she took on more responsibilities with the management of the stables. In recent years, she also has selflessly been Clifford's caregiver. A special thanks to Swazette Carter, for partnering with Suzanne to provide the care he required. Luther, Cliff's beloved dog, will miss him greatly.
Visitation will be held at Glenville Funeral Home on Friday, September 19th from 10:00-11:00 am, immediately followed by a service at the funeral home. The burial will follow the service at Park Cemetery at 128 Sacandaga Rd. Scotia, NY.
