Clifford’s life began on July 22, 1945, at Salem Hospital in Hillsboro. He was the son of Ronald G. and Ruby L. (Just) Hett. Clifford grew up on a farm near Marion and attended school at Marion Schools graduating in the Class of 1963. He served his country in the National Guard in 1965 and 1966, until he was honorably discharged after being in a car accident with his mother. Clifford and his dad Ron bought his first farm ground together in 1965 because Clifford wasn’t old enough to sign a note. Through his entire life, his passion has been for farming, ranching and being a steward of the land. Clifford grew up and was baptized in the Aulne Church. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Funk on February 22, 1969, at Trinity Mennonite Church in Hillsboro. Clifford and Evelyn made their home outside of Aulne on the land they loved and shared. He served his church as a trustee for many years. Clifford was also a Fairplay Township trustee, served on the Co-Op board, the Farm Bureau board and active with Young Farmers. Clifford lent his time to many community projects over the years, but his greatest effort was directed towards his family, especially his grandchildren. As a farmer, there were few vacations, but when he had the chance, he loved fishing trips with family and friends. Clifford enjoyed entertaining family at Thanksgiving, birthdays, and other family gatherings. He especially liked it when the family could all go out to eat. Clifford is survived by his daughter Eileen (Troy) Schmidt of Peabody; grandchildren Noah and Ruby Schmidt of Peabody; sisters Janie Meierhoff, Louise Whiteman and Alice Nellans and several nieces and nephews. Clifford passed away on Monday October 14, 2024, at St. Luke’s Living Center in Marion. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Evelyn, son Calvin, brother Willard Hett, nephew Cecil Meierhoff, brother in law Thad Meierhoff, sister in law Alvina Hett and nephew Gary Alleven. His family will gather with friends on Friday October 18, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion. His funeral service will be held on Saturday October 19, 2024, at 3 p.m. at the Aulne Church. He will be laid to rest in Claney Cemetery.
