Clifford Robichaud Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 29, 2025.
Clifford L. Robichaud passed away peacefully at his home on December 21 , 2025.

Cliff was raised in Dexter, a small town in Maine, where he built a childhood full of fond memories. He and his younger brother, John, often reminisced about those early years and the loving parents who shaped their lives.

After graduating from high school, Cliff proudly served in the United States Navy as a Maine E-6 propulsion engineer. He passed the Navy mechanical examination with a perfect score of 100 percent and was given the rare opportunity to choose the ship on which he would serve. During his service, he traveled extensively throughout the Mediterranean, experiences he carried with him throughout his life.

Following his military service, Cliff continued his commitment to public service and became the youngest captain in the Portland Fire Department at that time, a testament to his leadership, dedication, and work ethic.

A gifted and passionate musician, Cliff played multiple instruments. He performed on the tuba with both the Westbrook City Band and the Italian Heritage Band. He first picked up the guitar as a teenager and continued to play and enjoy music for the rest of his life.

Cliff also loved canoeing, motorcycles, and reading. He and his wife, Bea, rode motorscooters into their seventies. An avid reader, Cliff spent countless hours with a good book--his home resembling a small personal library.

Cliff was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, June (Bowdler) Robichaud; his daughter, Laura Sutherland of Florida; and his parents, Nick and Edna Robichaud of Maine.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Beatrice (Darling) Robichaud, his son Jon, son-in-law Bernie Sutherland, grandsons Andrew and Nick of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Brother John of Kentucky and his children Nicole Fann of Alabama, Shawn of Tennessee, brother Dennis Glidden of San Diego, CA. Cliff is further survived by his stepsons Mark Bowdler of Cape Elizabeth ME, and Jason Darling of South Portland, ME and Stacey Darling Thibeault of Topsham, ME, and his stepdaughter Liana Bowdler, her children Matthew and Briana Tovey of La Jolla, CA.

Cliff was a kind, generous, and helpful man who never hesitated to lend a hand to anyone in need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

If you ever find yourself enjoying a good book, playing an instrument, or savoring a slice of chocolate cream pie, think of Cliff and honor his memory.

Private graveside services will be held in the spring at Spurwink Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth.
