Clifton Butler Sr.

Clifton Butler, Sr., of White Oak, GA (Tarboro Community) was born April 4, 1930, to the late Cleveland Butler and Annie Liza James. He was the youngest and last living child of ten (10) loving siblings. He accepted Christ at a young age and attended Clinch Chapel United Methodist Church. Clifton worked in the pulpwood industry and later hired into the Gilman Paper Company where he worked for 23 years until the plant closed. He then worked for Georgia Pacific where he retired. A testament to his dedication and work ethic is him being the recipient of an award for not calling in sick for 20 years. His hard work and commitment are definitely something he passed on to his sons and daughters.
Clifton passed away peacefully at home at the age of 95, on Thursday morning, September 18, 2025. Preceding him in death were his son, Wanza LaNorris Butler (2016), three (3) sisters (Luida, Inez and Ranelda), and six (6) brothers (Ben, Mose, Grover, Townsend, Onie, and Joe).
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his devoted wife of 68 years, Irene Butler; four (4) daughters, Ada Bell Hamilton (Nathan), Woodbine GA, Krystal Waye (Carl), Kingsland GA, Janice Yvonne Butler, Detroit MI, Lucretia Butler, Atlanta, GA; and two (2) Sons: Clifton Butler, Jr. (Vernicea), Woodbine GA and Charles Butler, Sr. (Karen), Brunswick, GA; and15 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; nephews and nieces.
A special note of gratitude is given to those who provided consistent personal care to him during his illness: devoted Son, Clifton Butler, Jr.; daughter-in-law; Vernicea Butler; granddaughters, Channie Camp, Vernicea Graham, Gerri Banks, Ametria Everette, and Latoya Stuart; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gloria and Sylvester Rudolph.
There will not be a wake/visitation on Friday. Remains will lie in state one hour prior to services on Saturday for viewing.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 @ 2:00 pm at Browns Chapel AME Church, 332 New Post Road, White Oak, Ga. 31568 (Tarboro Community).
Interment will be in Clinches Chapel Church Cemetery,165 Owens Ferry Road, Woodbine, Ga.31569.
