A well loved and highly respected man, Clinton George "Bud" Acus, age 95, of Loveland, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. He was the cherished husband of his Lockland High School sweetheart, the late Imogene Brown Acus and a loving and supportive father to his children, Amy (Todd) Downey and the late Andy (Patti) Acus. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Jack (Lois) Acus.
Mr. Acus' proud legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Dr. Amanda (Daniel) Downey-Dickison, Tyler Downey, Sarah (Brian) McDonough, Andrea (Daniel) Powell and Emily Acus as well as his treasured great-grandchildren, Rowan, Mikey and Mallory. Many nieces and nephews are also celebrating the long and incredible life of their adored Uncle Bud.
Back in the 40's and early 50's, "Buddy" Acus was a five-sport star athlete at Lockland. He was state runner-up in the Ohio high school 100 yd and 220 yd dashs for two years. His football prowess earned him a scholarship to Miami University where he played along side John Pont, Bo Schembechler and was coached by Woody Hayes. Mr. Acus was an integral part of the Redskins beating the Bearcats in the Snow Bowl which helped Woody Hayes earn the head coaching job at The Ohio State. The Miami Redskins football team also won the Salad Bowl (Fiesta Bowl) in Tempe, AZ in 1950. To honor his athletic accomplishments, Mr. Acus was inducted into the Lockland Athletic Hall of Fame as well as the Buddy LaRosa Hall of Fame.
Upon graduation from Miami University, with a degree in education, Mr. Acus served with distinction in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. When back home, he embarked on a lifelong mission to enrich the lives of young people through teaching and coaching with the Sycamore School District. After earning a masters degree in administration at Xavier, he served as a principal at Blue Ash Elementary and Sycamore Junior High. Upon retiring from Sycamore, Mr. Acus served as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the city of Blue Ash.
Mr. Acus' storied tenure as head football coach from 1953-1967 at Sycamore Stadium, culminating in an EHL championship in 1964, cemented his status as a Sycamore legend. His name, eternally etched onto the football field, and his induction into the Aves Athletics Hall of Fame, are testaments to a remarkable career that will continue to inspire future generations. He was a natural leader who made a positive impact on those he coached, taught and loved. In fact two of his grandchildren are teachers and coaches today.
A man of profound faith, Mr. Acus was a devoted member of the Reading Lockland Presbyterian Church, where he served many roles, and later the Sycamore Presbyterian Church. Along with his wife, Mr. Acus volunteered for many years with the Valley Interfaith Food and Clothing Center.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon at the Sycamore Presbyterian Church, 11800 Montgomery Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45249. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Evendale. In remembrance of Mr. Acus' life, the family requests charitable donations to the Valley Interfaith Community Resource Center, Sycamore Presbyterian Church or the Sycamore Alumni & Friends Association in lieu of flowers.

Dear Amy, Don and I are so sorry for your loss. Your father was a wonderful man. We loved his sense of humor and the friendliness he shared with everyone around him. We knew him for 50 years while attending Reading Lockland Presbyterian Church together. Don knew of him since he was a young boy. We are happy that you had him for so many years. Love to you and your family. Carol and Don Sanders
