Raymond Acus, Jr. Obituary
Raymond William Acus Jr., age 90, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 12, 1933, and passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2024. He was the beloved only son of Raymond William Acus and Mildred Marie (Rich) Acus. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Marlene Kay (Davis) Acus, their three children, Karen Sloneker (Rodney), Raymond Acus III, M.D. (Julie), Kathy Acus-Souders (Daniel Souders), six grandchildren, Daniel Acus-Souders (Maggie Killman), Kirstin Acus, M.D., Sarah Acus-Souders, Aaron Acus-Souders (JoLyn), Christopher Acus, Benjamin Sloneker, and two great grandsons, Samuel Souders and Wesley Acus Souders.
Ray graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He served honorably as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and spent the rest of his career as a civilian engineer and program manager at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
Ray was a modest, intelligent man with a good sense of humor who loved his family, dogs, and nature. Respected as a hardworking, honest, and as an unfailingly logical man, he was devoted to his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. Ray loved dogs and treated them as family members. He shared his love of nature with outdoor activities like camping, skiing, golf, bird watching, scuba diving, whitewater rafting, and hiking. He also liked reading, flying, bike riding, following collegiate sports, travelling, working in his yard, and exploring his family's genealogy.
Ray was active in the community and served on the boards of the Fairborn Senior Center and the Greene County Council on Aging. He volunteered as a driver for the Fairborn Senior Center and served on committees for non-profit organizations. He was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn and served in many capacities there. Ray's volunteer activities were acknowledged when he was chosen as the 2007 Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival King.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn on Saturday, February 17th with calling hours from 11:15 am – 12 noon followed by a service at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ray's name may be sent to the Beavercreek Wetlands Association or the First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn.
