Clyde W. Decorie

1930 - 2025

Clyde W. Decorie passed peacefully on May 24th, 2025 at Mount Carmel Care Center in Lenox, MA.

He was born on June 20, 1930 in Springfield, MA to Clyde E. Decorie and Fernande G. (Gallant) Decorie. He was the older brother to Richard E. Decorie. Clyde graduated from Technical High School in 1948 and went on to serve in the Army in the early 1950's in Germany during the Korean War. He graduated with a degree in Accounting from Western New England College in 1963 and a Juris Doctor degree from the same college in 1971. His college days were spent working during the day and attending college at night.

In May of 1967, he married Lorita A. Calderella at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Pittsfield and they went on to raise two daughters together.

He was employed as an IRS agent for 29 years and retired in 1993 as a Group Manager. During his working years he could not practice law as it was in conflict with his IRS work. He was deeply interested in genealogy, archeology, reading about history, philately and collecting antiques. His biggest passion was genealogy, where he spent countless hours researching and tracing his family roots. He took vacations in Canada tracing his family there to the early 1630's and he was fascinated to find out that one ancestor was a 12 year old girl taken captive in the 1704 Deerfield, MA raid and brought to Canada where she later married.

Clyde and his wife enjoyed traveling with their family in the United States, Canada and Europe. He also spent vacations traveling to the Bahamas, Palm Beach, Alaska, Martha's Vineyard, and Orlando with his grandchildren as they grew up, impressing them all by going on all of the roller coasters at age 85. He and his wife also spent many vacations in Virginia and Maine doing archaeology digs. In their searches they found many articles which were to be shown in exhibits. Almost every day he would spend hours reading books with various themes.

Clyde was an incredibly kind and gentle soul who served for years as a Eucharistic Minister for Mount Carmel Church. He delivered Meals on Wheels for Elder Services well into his 90's and was a generous donor to countless organizations that he believed in.

Clyde is survived by his wife Lorita A. (Calderella) Decorie. his two daughters, Jacqueline L. Decorie of Pittsfield, MA and Kristen M. (Decorie) Guthrie and son-in-law Brendon J. Guthrie of Andover, MA. He also leaves his grandchildren Cameron M. Guthrie and Emma A. Guthrie and many nieces and nephews in both the Chicago area and in Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Richard E. Decorie. He was a member of St. Ann's Church in Lenox.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Clyde Decorie will be celebrated Thursday, May 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Ann's Church, 134 Main St., Lenox, MA by Monsignor John Bonzagni. Entombment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield, MA.
