Clyde Ray Dowdle, age 88, of Elgin, Texas, passed away on the evening of August 27, 2025. Born on May 3, 1937, in Dawson, Navarro County, Texas, Clyde dedicated much of his life to public service and family.
Clyde married Annette Williams on August 8, 1959, and together they shared many cherished memories until her passing in 1997. He later married Mary Faye and subsequently Deeana Slayter, both of whom have also preceded him in death.
Clyde was a venerated Police Officer with the Austin Police Department, where he served with honor and integrity from 1965 until his retirement in 1994. Aside from his consuming vocation, he found a passion working on cars.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Almer Dowdle and Mary Flowers Dowdle; his first wife, Annette Dowdle; his second wife, Faye Dowdle; his third wife, Deeana Slayter; his sister, Jane Dowdle; his brother, Bill Dowdle; and his son, Keith Dowdle.
Clyde is survived by his sons, Brent Dowdle and his wife Nancy, and Noel Dowdle. He is also remembered fondly by his granddaughters, Emilee Patterson, Callie Dowdle, and Aubrey Dowdle; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
His legacy of service to his community and dedication to family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Family and Friends will gather for Repast and Fellowship at Elgin Church of Christ, Thursday, September 4th from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM. Family will receive guests at Elgin Funeral Home, Thursday, September 4th from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Clyde's Life at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jason Wilder presiding. Interment will follow at Elgin Cemetery with Honors presented by the Austin Police Department.
