Clyde M. Hoekstra, age 66, of Ocheyedan, IA passed away suddenly on Friday morning, August 1, 2025 in the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, IA.
A Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM Tuesday August 5, 2025 at the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan.
A Funeral Service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 6, 2025 also at the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan, with the Rev. Lee Khang officiating.
Clyde Murray Hoekstra was born May 28, 1959 in Worthington, Minnesota to Ranzie and Barbara Hoekstra (DeHamer). He grew up on a farm near Harris, Iowa and moved to Ocheyedan, Iowa in 1975. He attended Harris Lake Park Elementary and graduated from Western Christian High School in 1977. Clyde received a degree in carpentry from Northwest Iowa Technical College in 1978.
Clyde married Tammy Van Berkum on November 27, 1993. Clyde and Tammy had two children, Tyler and Casey, and welcomed many foster children into their lives.
Clyde was a longtime truck driver who worked for Sathers, Rosenbooms, and hauled milk for AMPI. He also had his own construction company, Hoekstra Construction. Clyde fulfilled his lifelong dream of building his own home with the help of family and friends which was completed in 2011.
Clyde enjoyed woodworking, construction, gardening, and taking care of his lawn. He served as a Boy Scout Leader, a Cadet Leader, and was on the Ocheyedan City Council. Clyde and Tammy opened their home to foster children for the past 7 years, and Clyde loved spending time with them. Clyde valued the outdoors, playing card games, and spending time with family and friends.
Clyde was proceeded in death by his father Ranzie Hoekstra, brother Randall Hoekstra, father-in-law Russel Van Berkum, brother-in-law Denny Leusink, and foster child Jesse Herbst.
He is survived by his wife Tammy Hoekstra, son Tyler Hoekstra and fiance Kathy Mixdorf, daughter Casey Hoekstra and partner Nic Contreras, mother Barbara Hoekstra and husband Jeen Boer, brother Ivan and Peg Hoekstra, sister Linda and Jim Horan, brother-in-law Gail and Darla Van Berkum, sister-in-law Cheri Leusink, sister-in-law LaDonna and Gary Dodd, sister-in-law Vonda Van Berkum, seven nephews, and six nieces.
Memorials will be given to Kings and Queens Local in Okoboji, a foster care organization.
