It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Clyde Eugene "Gene" McEntyre of Adairsville, Georgia, on the morning of June 28, 2025, at the age of 91. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Calhoun.
Known affectionately as "Daddy", "Pawpaw", and "Grandpa" to his kids and grand-kids, Gene was a hardworking, self-made man who never worked for anyone but himself. A true entrepreneur, he spent his life in the restaurant and grocery business and was a skilled butcher by trade. His BBQ was a community favorite-with a highly guarded recipe.
Gene was much more than a businessman. He was a character-funny, charming, and full of life. He loved being outdoors, tending his garden, raising animals on his farm, and growing some of the largest produce anyone had ever seen. Riding around the farm on his golf cart was always a treat with Gene and something he loved doing.
He was deeply loved by all who knew him and will be missed beyond measure.
Gene is survived by his children, Rhonda (Coy) Long and Chris (Trish) McEntyre; his grandchildren, DeShea (Mickey) Young, and Whitney (Mike) Levins; and his great grandchildren, Parker (Meri Kathryn) Young, and Meghan Young, and Henry and Truett Levins: sister, Hazel Moss; brother, Kenneth (Brenda) McEntyre; several nieces, nephews, and special friends, Ashley Walton and Brian "Handyman" Manos.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Darris and Laura Bell Scott McEntyre; his siblings, Roy Max "Bo" McEntyre and Juanita "Pont'' Ray; and his beloved son, Gary Clyde McEntyre.
A celebration of Gene's life will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Heritage Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a service to follow immediately after.
Pallbearers serving are Jason Abercrombie, Stanley Jarrett, George Walraven, Randy Seabolt, Brian Manos, and Tony McCaslin.
Honorary pallbearers include Danny Mitchell, Jimmy Boyd, Melanie Smith, Terry Crump, Jajay Cantrell, Brent Higgins, Barry Higgins, and Mark Stewart.
His legacy of hard work, joy, and love for family and community will live on in all who were lucky enough to know him.
