Paul Sousa of Anderson, SC passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at AnMed Medical Center.
Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years Betty Lee and a brother, Gerald "Jerry" of Warren, RI.
During a rewarding 30-year career in the United States Air Force, Paul achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He served overseas in Guam, Greenland, Turkey, Korea, Vietnam, Hawaii, Japan, Okinawa, and the Philippines. He was awarded the Bronze Star in Vietnam for exemplary performance as Operations Manager of the Civil Engineering Squadron and as the Supervisor of the Bomb Damage, Rapid Runway Repair Team. His other notable achievements and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal and 6 Commendation Medals.
During his service tenure, he found time to coach Little League baseball for 16 years, and played second base on various base softball and baseball teams. Upon retirement from the Air Force, he worked for the contractor as Quality Control Manager on the Hartwell Lake Project.
Paul is survived by his fiancé, Charlotte Divelbiss; four daughters, Debra Parnes of Lusby, MD, Sandra Schwartz (Robert) of Travelers Rest, SC, Angela Ramirez (Michael) of Selma, TX, and Eva Bodily of Inman, SC; three sons, Paul Sousa (Christina) of Surprise, AZ, Michael Sousa (Frances) of Corpus Christi, TX, and Patrick Sousa of Selma, TX; 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Sousa will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 11:00 am at The McDougald Funeral Home. He will be interred with his wife at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
