Cody Hutchins Obituary

Cody Jace Hutchins, 17, of Pierce, CO, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023, as the result of an automobile accident. He was born February 9, 2006, to Joe and Richelle (Brown) Hutchins in Fort Collins. Cody grew up in Pierce and attended school at Highland through 7th grade. He then attended Pawnee Jr-Sr High School in Grover where he was currently a senior. As part of his senior curriculum, Cody worked part time at Superior Towing in Greeley, learning to operate heavy wreckers. He was also learning to weld and do service and repair work on heavy machinery. At Pawnee High School, he was a member of the National Honor Society, Pawnee Shooting Sports team, Future Farmers of America and Future Business Leaders of America. Cody lettered with his Clay Target Team and was a member of the team that went to the state clay target tournament in 2022 and 2023. He also lettered in football at both Highland and Pawnee. He participated in the Christian youth group, J Squad, through the Friendship Alliance Church in Grover. Cody's faith and family were the foundation that made him who he was. His life and the things he loved to do revolved around so many things, with his pickup and hunting being very important to him. He also enjoyed reloading shells, fly fishing, fly tying, and he loved animals. Cody also enjoyed driving semi trucks while hauling wheat and running the combine during wheat harvest on his Papa's farm. Taking the truck and stock trailer out to haul cattle and working cattle with his dad and brother were always good days for Cody, especially if it kept him from going to school. Cody was a bright, shining light who lived life to the fullest and his larger-than-life presence in this world was a true test of what an exceptional kid he really was. Cody spread his love and kindness to everyone he was around. His personality and smile followed him wherever he went. He is survived by his parents, Joe and Richelle Hutchins of Pierce. He is also survived by his brother and best buddy, Caden Hutchins of Pierce, his grandparents, Duane and Janice Brown of Pierce, Jacquelyn Speake of Cortez and Butch Hutchins of LaSalle. Cody's aunts, uncles and cousins that will miss his include his uncle, Clint Brown and wife Kristin of Windsor, (cousins Braxton and Sterling); his aunt, Bethany Caton and husband Russ of Alamosa (cousins Tyson, Eathan, Jaden and Sylvie) and his uncles, Trevor Speake and wife Brenda of Livingston, Montana (cousins Terran, Taylor and Brody) and Chris Hutchins of Three Forks, Montana; and many, many close friends and family. A Life Celebration will be held at 3:00p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Journey Christian Church, 4754 W. 31st Street, Greeley, CO 80634. The memorial service will be very casual and, in true "Cody style" everyone is encouraged to dress in jeans, boots and t-shirts or Hawaiian shirts. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cody Hutchins Memorial Fund in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 W. 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. Cody's big heart was always looking for ways to give back and support kids in the community and his memorial fund will be used to support youth organizations that were close to Cody's heart and that will give kids a chance to get involved with or experience a sport or hunting activity that they may not otherwise be able to participate in.
