Cody Smith, also known as Cody Girdley, of Brainerd, MN passed away on November 5, 2024, in Duluth, MN. Christian Funeral Services for Cody will be held on Saturday November 16, 2024, at 11:00am at Eaglebrook Church in Baxter. There will be a visitation for friends and family held on Friday November 15, 2024, from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
Cody was born to Brian Sosnin and Anna Smith on April 25, 1989, and adopted by Bruce Smith on November 3, 2021.
Taking much pride in his work, Cody owned Kentucky Landscaping and was a lead worker for the Crow Wing County Highway Dept. Many words can describe Cody including giving, generous, strong, hardworking, funny, loved by all, and a best friend to many. He enjoyed family, sports games, cheering on kids at football, wrestling and cheerleading, going on camping trips, fishing, and hunting. He was affectionately known as ‘Chef-Boy-R-Cody’ and was a longtime employee at Zorbaz – known as ‘Tarzan’.
Cody was the ultimate definition of a husband, father, son, provider, friend and brother. He will be greatly missed by all. Cody gave the ultimate gift of life through organ donation.
Grateful for sharing Cody’s life are his wife; Kisha Smith, children; Skyler Girdley (14), bonus son Burkley Horak (12), Teagan Girdley (7), parents; Bruce and Anna Smith and Brian and Lisa Sosnin, grandparents Janice Mather, Eloise Smith, and Celeste (Robert Jr) Ward, parents in-law; Tom and Teri Austin, Brad and Nancy Henderson, his siblings; Amanda LaRaye (Shane) Holmin of Backus, Elizabeth Noel (Dan) Holmin of Hackensack, Kevin (Shanna) Girdley of Brainerd, Relichia McSorley of KY, Keyandre Smith of Backus, Phil (Tina) Smith of Florida, Tana (Mark) LaPaglia of Arizona, Tammi (Kevin) Cortez of Georgia, Tara (JT) Barnett of ND, Sarah Sosnin of KY, and Brennon Sosnin of Louisville, KY, sibling-in-laws; Jeremy (Allana) Hawkings, Kristopher Hawkings, Tommy (Alisha) Austin, Travis (Heather) Austin, Corey (Amelia) Henderson, Tristin (Brianna) Austin, Krystal Austin, Tanya (Jon) Meyer, Katrina (Ian) Condon, Ryan (Jenny) Mohr, Bridgette (Matt) Mohr, Rachel Mohr, and many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cody is preceded in death by his grandparents Brian Sosnin Sr., Richard Smith, Leo and Betty Borders, and his uncle Joe Borders.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
