Colden Kimber Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 27, 2025.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Colden Everett Kimber. He was killed on July 26, 2025, after being attacked by a man with a knife at a light rail stop in San Francisco. He spent his final moments protecting others but could not survive his catastrophic injuries.

Colden was born in 1996 in Ithaca, NY, and grew up in nearby Dryden. He was a hockey player from an early age and the sport became a lifelong passion. Colden had a deep love of nature, and a keen aptitude for science and for building things. A 2014 graduate of New Paltz High School, he served as captain of his cross-country ski team and competed at the New York State cross-country skiing championship. Colden was also a competitive road cyclist and raced for Virginia Tech. In 2018 and 2019 he won back-to-back New York State Time Trial championships.

He moved to San Francisco, CA with his girlfriend in 2020 to work as a bike mechanic and was a competitive road cyclist and coach. At the time of his death, Colden was also a student at San Francisco State University studying kinesiology with a keen interest in sports performance.

Colden is survived by his mother, Lara Litchfield-Kimber and younger sister, Ana Kimber, his long-time girlfriend, a loving extended family, and a large community of friends, teammates and colleagues. He was predeceased by his father, Kevin Kimber.

Colden will be remembered as an intelligent, playful, caring, and naturally curious person who was incredibly loyal and protective of his family and friends. He was a gifted and dedicated athlete who forged his own path in life and encouraged others to follow their dreams.

A memorial bike ride is planned for Sunday, September 7th, from 9-11am at the Golden Gate Park Polo Fields in San Francisco. Private memorial services are planned for both San Francisco in September and Ithaca in October. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Colden's memory to the Ithaca Youth Hockey Association, USA Cycling Foundation, or the Gardens of Golden Gate Park.
