Concetta DiCarlo Obituary

Concetta "Connie" DiCarlo
Concetta "Connie" DiCarlo, 83, of Woodbridge, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. She was the devoted wife of 61 years to Benedetto "Benny" DiCarlo. Connie was born in Cercemaggiore, Province of Campo Basso, Italy on June 21, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Jenny Spina DiCarlo. She and her family immigrated to America when Connie was 16 years old. She began working at a clothing factory for many years with her mother until returning to Italy and marrying her husband, Benny. They later returned to America in 1962 and began starting a family. After the birth of her two sons, Connie embraced the role of a stay-at-home mother. When her sons got older, she began working in the deli department at Stop & Shop in North Haven for many years. She enjoyed trips to the casino, playing her daily numbers, cooking, baking and entertaining family and friends. Connie and her husband raised their children in a close-knit neighborhood, their house, backyard and Italian style basement was open to all. Their mentality was "the more the merrier" and "doors were open to everyone". Their backyard parties became a staple in the neighborhood, especially their annual lamb roast and Palm Sunday with family; everyone looked forward getting together at Connie and Benny's house. Connie will be remembered for her incredible meals, whether it be her amazing Sunday sauce, homemade pasta and meatballs and the list goes on. However, her greatest joy was preparing meals and spending time with her grandchildren who she loved unconditionally. Beloved mother of John DiCarlo (Kris), Steven B. DiCarlo (Leigh). Loving Nonnie of Nicholas, Macey, Gianna, and Chase DiCarlo. Sister of Anthony DiCarlo and the late Vincent DiCarlo. Sister-in-law of MaryAnn DiCarlo and the late Patricia DiCarlo. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend a special thank you to their neighbors and extended family, Kit and Tom Dunbar, Mel and Joe DelVecchio, Darlene and Greg Smith, Angie and Emil Mattei, for all the care and compassion they provided to Connie over the years.
The visiting hours will be on Sunday, February 12th from 1 to 4 PM at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. Family and friends are invited to go directly to Our Lady of Assumption Church, 81 Center Road Woodbridge on Monday morning February 13th at 11:00 to attend a Mass of Christian Burial and are also invited to attend the committal service immediately following in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to CT Hospice, Inc., 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405, or Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 81 Center Road, Woodbridge, CT 06525. www.northhavenfuneral.com

My mother-in-law Wanda Carrubba lived across the street from Connie. Everyday they watched their soap operas together. I have wonderful memories of being welcomed to join them when my husband and I were in town. Our deepest condolences to the family. She is fondly remembered.

Connie, you will be missed! I have so many fond memories of you from my childhood, from the smell of your favorite cinnamon Dentyne gum and the sounds of the "crackles" you were able to make with it as we would go on our trips to the store to get your lottery tickets, to having me over every day after kindergarten for Stella Doro cookies and a teeny glass of homemade wine with Pasquale, to our late nights in the screen house talking with the neighborhood friends. You treated me like I was your daughter. May you be at peace now that you are free of pain. Until we meet again....

Beautiful Connie, ugh.
I was blessed to be their neighbor for 7 years.
No other way to say it other than little Italy USA was at their residence.
The door was always open, literally. Old school, pop your head in and yell Ben/Connie! and you walked right in. Usually down stairs, Connie was making sauce or something incredibly delicious.
She´d have food already on the huge table, "have something, here".
I always enjoyed my talks with her. I loved her Italian accent, and I clearly remember her at Stop & Shop. She is loved and will be missed terribly. The picture I posted is from April 2021. I had popped in after a quick visit to Connecticut. They meant so much to me, that photo has been in my phone ever since.
