Connie Maxine Scott McElveen, 88, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025. She was born in Marlboro County, SC, daughter of the late Albert Tabor "Buck" Scott and Josephine Jones Scott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Dewey Graham, Sr. and James T. "Jim" McElveen; her son, Charles Dewey "Chuck" Graham, Jr.; her sister, Virginia Perdue; and her brothers, Buck Scott, Jr., and Jackie Scott, a great grandson Charles Alexander Johnson.
Maxine lovingly known as " Mama", "Mac", "Granny", or "Memaw", loved to laugh. She loved to be surrounded by family and friends. Her faith in God was a constant source of strength and joy. Although she wasn't always able to attend church, she always watched or listened to various preachers on Sundays. She loved old hymns, the sound of windchimes , cooking shows and soap operas. She also loved to stay connected with friends and family on Facebook.
Mrs. McElveen is survived by her daughter, Connie Graham Mauldin and son-in-law Eddie; her grandchildren, Lil' Eddie Mauldin (Dawn), Charles Michael Mauldin (Kellie), Cassandra "Skye" Johnson, Scottie Graham (Bekah), and Samantha Graham (Sam); her great-grandchildren, Hayden, Hannah, McKyleigh, Eli, Ethan, Blake, Carson, Clark, and Ares; her sister, Bobbie Coon; her special friend, Amanda Edwards; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. McElveen will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly. Rev. Eddie Mauldin will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Gaston County Meals on Wheels, Gaston County DHHS, Attention: Meals on Wheels Gaston, 330 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, Gastonia, NC 28052.
