Emery Ray McElveen, Sr., 85, husband of Nancy Hill McElveen for 65 years, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Emery was born in Sumter, SC on November 11, 1939, the fifth son of the late Wesley L. McElveen and the late Edna Osteen McElveen. Emery was a member of St. Marks UMC until 1959, when he followed Nancy to St. James Lutheran Church. He was a very active member, serving on numerous committees. Emery was a proud member of Edmunds High School Class of 1959 and then attended Clevenger College and numerous banking schools. He retired from NBSC and went to work in maintenance at McElveen Manor and then delivered parts for Riverside Ford.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Paula Allen (Tim) and Ray McElveen (Aimee); 11 grandchildren, Bridgett Zeigler, Stephanie Brown (Tommy), Brent Price (Alyssa), Frankie Trepoy (Sara), Bruce Trepoy (Katie), Jennifer Coulter (Patrick), Grant McElveen (Emily), David McElveen, Emily McElveen, Ashley Clapsaddle (Nathan), and Andrew Allen (Tristen); 12 great-grandchildren, Cooper Zeigler, Haylee Brown, McKenzie Brown, Delaney Toler, Avary Price, Levi Price, Maggie Price, Caroline Coulter, Emery Cole Trepoy, Mary Jane Allen, Loralei Allen, and Noa Allen; a brother, Gobe McElveen (Pat), a sister-in-law, Vivian McElveen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela McElveen Price; and brothers, James McElveen (Martha), Russell McElveen (Mildred), Phil McElveen (Rounette), and Robert McElveen.

Emery loved wood working and could fix anything. The family always looked forward to his annual carved item to add to their collection. He was always available to help anyone at any time.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Friday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Scott Landrum officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brent Price, Frankie Trepoy, Bruce Trepoy, Grant McElveen, David McElveen, Patrick Coulter, and Tommy Brown.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 1800 Queen Chapel Rd.

Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 1137 Alice Dr., Sumter, SC 29150 or to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospice, 500 Pinewood Rd., Suite 2, Sumter, SC 29154.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.

God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Jimmy and Jennifer Hudson former members of St. James Lutheran Church. We now live in Eolia, Mizzouri. Emery was a great southern gentleman. God bless the family and prayers to the family.
