Conrad Allen Broomfield, Jr., affectionately known as Shoestring, age 58, passed away peacefully at his home in Dodson under the loving care of Hand in Hand Hospice after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Shoestring was a simple man with a big heart and an even bigger personality. He spent his life behind the wheel of a log truck, working hard and making friends wherever the road took him. He never met a stranger and never missed a chance to lend a hand or crack a joke. He was a character through and through, known for his quick wit, good-natured teasing, and the way he could turn an ordinary day into a story worth retelling.

He had a lifelong love of classic cars, antiques, good company, and helping others. When life got tough, his strength, humor, and stubborn streak carried him through. During his illness, the outpouring of love and support from his friends and community meant the world to him and his family.

Shoestring is survived by his daughters, Katelyn Bares (Robert) of Abbeville and Becca Byrd (Crystal) of Grayson; his mother, Jamie Grafton Broomfield; siblings Diana Waldrop, Leslea Bougues, and Dakota Broomfield; and his beloved grandchildren, Aubrey and Henry Bares, Brylee, and Piper, who were the light of his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, Conrad Broomfield, Sr., and his mother, Diane Greer.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 13th, at the Dodson Church of Christ at 309 Murphy St., Dodson LA. with Bro. Michael Shows offficiating. Interment will follow in the Transport Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Friends may visit with the family at the church on Sunday, October 12th, from 3:00 p.m. until time of services on Monday.

Pallbearers will be: Marcus Desadier, Richie Broomfield, Anthony Delaughter, Jason Hanson, Steve Thomisee, and David Kornegay. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dakota Broomfield, Shawn Coleman, Dennis Pardue, Chris Brown, Robert Paul Coutee, Allen Kornegay, Greg Whatley, Steve Sims, Stephen Gaar, and Timmy Simons.

Junior lived life on his own terms-with grit, humor, and heart. He'll be remembered in every friendly wave from a passing truck, every laugh shared on a front porch, and every story told about "that time Shoestring said…"
