Mick was of Finnish descent, born in Seattle, Washington, only child to Conrad "Connie" and Elsie of Ladysmith, British Columbia. Mick grew up in the south Seattle neighborhood of Georgetown near Boeing Field and developed both a lively imagination and a lifelong fascination with airplanes.
In 1982, Mick met the love of his life, Susan, while on the job. They married in 1986, sharing over four decades filled with family, faith, laughter, and travel.
Mick's family includes his son, Michael, his wife, Lisa and their daughters Olivia and Natalie, son David, his wife Thea, their daughters Ava and Sophie and son Gabe, his wife Orane and their son Jacques, Mick's great-grandson.
Mick graduated from Cleveland High School in Seattle, Washington in 1953. At Cleveland, Mick excelled in football, proudly serving as captain and varsity player. After graduating he spent a year at the University of Washington and joined the Washington Air National Guard, serving seven years alongside his lifelong friend, Paul Pommerville.
In the 1960s, Mick continued his education earning degrees from Multnomah School of the Bible and Cascade College. He also attended Western Baptist Seminary, later serving as a temporary pastor for a church in Battle Ground, Washington. Mick was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Community Church. Faith remained central throughout his life.
Mick worked for Portland Bottling and later rose to leadership within Teamsters Local 162 as vice president and as a business agent. In retirement, he continued to serve, working as a labor liaison for a U.S. Congressman. In addition to his professional endeavors he dedicated his time coaching youth soccer, serving as a camp counselor and leading numerous bible study groups.
Mick, known to his family as "Mickey Boy", was a big kid at heart always looking for the fun in life. He will be remembered for his infectious laughter, good humor and love of faith and family. Mick's deep faith brought purpose and joy to every part of his life. His interests included studying scripture, following politics and current events and watching all sports, especially football and Beaver games with Susan. He was an ever-present figure at his grandchildren's sporting events. Mick enjoyed finding new restaurants and eating good food. He loved his walks around Glendoveer Golf Course and loved being on the water whether it be the coasts of Hawaii, Oregon or Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. He loved boating, swimming or waterskiing on Lake Oswego, Lake Merwin or Round Butte Reservoir.
Greatly missed, forever in our hearts.
