Conroy grew up in
Rosenberg, Texas attending Holy Rosary Catholic School and graduating from Lamar Consolidated High School in 1966. While he was involved in many activities, he was especially fond of his memories as a Lamar Mustang football player still reminiscing and sharing those stories today.
After graduation he attended Wharton County Junior College and worked various jobs before joining his dad, Emil Bezecny, as a Farmers Insurance agent in Rosenberg, a job he held for forty years before retiring in 2013. Even years after his retirement, he enjoyed striking up a conversation when he ran into his former customers.
Conroy married the love of his life, Mary Ann, on August 24, 1968. They were blessed with two daughters - Tracey in 1972 and Stephanie in 1974. Conroy never missed his daughters' many activities from sporting events & games to school plays and twirling performances. He continued to stay busy later in life by regularly attending his granddaughters' games and performances, and he could often be found in the bleachers at Friday night football games cheering on the Bluejays and watching his granddaughters twirl. He was affectionately known as "Gramps" by his granddaughters as well as their friends, a title he cherished.
In his younger years, Conroy spent many hours outdoors hunting and fishing with his friends and many brothers-in-law. His love of fishing started when he was very young, often tagging along with his parents and remained a hobby for many years. Eventually he and Mary Ann purchased a cabin in Sargent, where you could find him fishing on the pier or building a bonfire on the beach. Countless memories were made with family and friends on the coast in Sargent.
Conroy was a faithful servant attending mass weekly at Saint Michael's Catholic Church since moving to Needville in 1977. He served on the finance council for over ten years, was a regular usher, and volunteered in various roles.
Conroy was also proud to be a 56-year member of the Knights of Columbus Council #7067, where he held multiple offices over the years. Community members were often greeted by Conroy as he volunteered at numerous fundraisers such as the Fish Fry Dinners during Lent. His favorite thing was visiting as he handed out meals in the drive-thru line.
