Cora E Burton

Cora "Shorty" Burton, 95, of Trinidad was called to her heavenly home on March 16, 2026.
She was born March 27, 1930 in Trinidad, TX, to Jesse and Martha Taylor. She was small in stature but large in life. Shorty was feisty and loved to tell stories of growing up in Trinidad. One of her favorite stories to tell was how they would sneak on the train in Trinidad and get off in Powell. She even loved telling the stories of Trinidad's history, which she learned through her genealogy research.
In her younger years she worked at the Corner Cafe in Trinidad. She met her soul mate David Burton at the skating rink. She tells the story that she did not go to the skating rink looking for him, but she left with him and rest is history. They married on August 15, 1949 in Marhsall, TX. Throughout their marriage she worked as a substitute teacher for Malakoff, Trinidad, and Cross Roads. She worked as an attendant for Huckabee-Tomlinson Funeral Home for many years.
Her two favorite pets were Chico and Kitty Tom. She could tell Chico what to do and he would mind better than any kid would.
Cora is preceded in death by her parents Jesse Taylor, Martha Youngblood, son Kevin Burton, son-in-law Jim Day.
She is survived by her loving husband of 76 years David Burton, daughter Teresa Day, son Michael Burton and wife Pam, son Ricky Burton and wife Sylvia, son Kenneth Burton and wife Heather, grandchildren Nicole, Jonathan, Brad, Brook, Krista, Wesley, Kevin, and Kelsie. Her legacy will continue to live on in many great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Huckabee-Tomlinson Funeral Home.
Service will be 1:00 PM Friday, March 20, 2026 at Trinity Baptist Church, Trinidad with Chaplain Scott Mabry officiating.
