James "Jim" R. Laney, age 82, passed away on December 5, 2025, in Bedford, Texas. He was born on February 15, 1943, in Stephenville, Texas to parents Raymond E. and Mary L. (Stasey) Laney. Leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. Jim's journey through life was marked by a profound dedication to both his family and his career that will forever be treasured by those who knew him.

A proud graduate of Duncanville High School in 1961, Jim's athletic talent earned him baseball and basketball scholarships to Sul Ross State University, where he graduated with a Business Degree in 1965. He embarked on a fulfilling career at Bell Helicopter, dedicating over 30 years as a mechanical engineer and planner, where he made lifelong friendships that enriched his life.

Jim was more than his career; he was a devoted family man, married to his college sweetheart and soulmate for 62 wonderful years. Jim and Ruby have four beautiful daughters who they shaped into strong, independent women. Together, they built a joyful life, full of adventures that included RV traveling, memorable cruises, and a heartwarming trip to Norway. He took great pride in celebrating the weddings of all four daughters and two granddaughters, moments that brought indescribable joy to his life. As a loving "Papa," Jim delighted in attending sporting events, cheering on his grandkids with the same passion he reserved for his beloved Dallas Cowboys. Quiet evenings were often spent watching Hallmark movies, Westerns, football games and the sun set on the lake with his wife.

Jim's character was a beautiful blend of selflessness, kindness, and humor. He was known for his encouraging spirit, generosity, loyal nature, strong faith and ambition that inspired all who crossed his path. He found great joy in collecting ducks, boating, dancing, especially, two-stepping to country music. Their home was always open to everyone.

Jim never met a stranger and was loved by all that knew him. Jim fulfilled his lifelong dream of retiring on the lake with his beloved wife, who was also his best friend. Their marriage was an example of true love that everyone admired.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond E. and Mary Lois (Stasey) Laney; son-in-law, Gerald Cribbs; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and his brothers-in-law, Bill Marx and Scotty Aitken.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Ruby Laney of Mabank, Texas; daughter, Jeannia Cribbs of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Kathy Mucha and husband Scott of Keller, Texas; daughter, Tiena McFarland and husband David of Southlake, Texas; daughter, Jimmie Sue Maldonado and husband Richie of Mabank, Texas; Paige Chorens and Todd Pressley, who are like a daughter and son; sisters, Claudia Fair, Mary Marx, and Margie Laney; grandchildren, Keith, Collin, and Makenna Cribbs, Erik Lammedal, Sophia Bailey, and Jacob Mucha, Maeghan McFarland, Madisyn McGuire, Drew, Noah, and Landrey McFarland, Tyler, Madeline, and Keegan Maldonado, and Joshua Lammedal; greatgrandchildren, Eli and Evelyn McFarland, Rowan Cribbs, Micah McGuire, Henry Bailey, and Baby Girl McGuire and Baby Bailey both on the way; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Randy and Tamy Doshier; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will all miss Jim dearly.
