Mrs. Cora Lee Smithers Moffitt, age 74, of the Straight Fork Community in Huntsville, TN, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family. Born March 12, 1950, in Robbins, TN, she was born to the late Ed Smithers and Clara Juanita Cochran Smithers Bowling.
Cora was a wonderful loving mother and wife. She loved sports, especially TN Vols and all Cleveland teams. But nothing gave her as much joy as watching and cheering for all her grandchildren. Cora also enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time with all her family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her stepdad: Robert 'Bo' Bowling; siblings: Willie (Thelma), Mary (Clay), Mae (Johnny), Sarah (Leon), Vesie (Ed), James (Betty), Zilpha, Sue (James Harold/Bob), Gene (Lois), Gleason, Howard (Faye), Daniel, infant brothers and sister; and special friend: Nona Duncan.
Cora is survived by her husband and love of her life of 55 years: Barney Moffitt; children: Archie Allen, Ben (Phyllis), all of the Straight Fork Community, and Dawn Bush (Matt) of Oneida; grandchildren: Dalton Moffitt, Ryan Newport, Raylie Bush, Ryker Bush, McKayshae Cross; brother: Ray Smithers (Mary King) of the Straight Fork Community; brother-in-law: Vernon Sieber of Petros, TN; sister-in-law: Nancy Smithers of Oneida; special friends: Deane Parton, Freda Hatmaker, and Fay Daugherty; several special nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. 'Bunk' will by missed by all who loved her.
The family would like to extend a special 'Thanks' to Pam Byrge for taking such special care of Mrs. Cora these last few weeks. Also, all who stepped in and helped during this difficult time, especially: Faith, Mary, Ryan, Dalton, Misty, Raylie, and Frank, and everyone else for the prayers and food.
Friends may visit with the Moffitt family on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Chaney, Bro. Frank Smithers and Mary Lou Steelman officiating. Music will be provided by: Brent and Leslie Shoemaker.
Committal service will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. in the Black Creek Cross Roads Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Ryan Newport, Dalton Moffitt, Dwight Human, Ed Seiber, Jacob Smithers and Phillip Hutson. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Joey Smithers, Mitchell Smithers, Dwayne Human, Mark Smithers, Larry Steelman, Anthony Cross, Mike Velardo, Dean Green; and Special Honorary Pallbearer: Ryker Bush.
