Cora Lee Powell Strickland 81, of Greenwood, Florida, passed away on December 31, 2025. She was born on December 2, 1944, in Dellwood, Florida to J.W. and Lois Powell.
Cora was a member of Welcome Assembly of God, where she served on several committees, including the Women’s Ministry, the Golden Heirs, Widows, and Missions. Her faith in God was the foundation that kept her through all of her life’s trials. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking for them more than anything else. If you left her table hungry, it was your own fault, and she tried her best to make sure that never happened. Cora worked for 27 years in the Property Appraiser’s Office. She enjoyed working for and serving the citizens of Jackson County. She later retired from Jackson Correctional Institution, where she served in the business office. The need to stay busy took her to Bob Pforte Motors as the accounts receivable clerk and cashier. It was there that she met the love of her life, Larry, who did his best to spoil her and treat her like a true queen every day. When Larry came into her life; he brought his two sons, Jonathan and Jason, who became her “Chosen Children.” The two families merged seamlessly.
Cora was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Strickland; parents, J.W. and Lois Powell; her siblings, Annie Pearl Powell, Clinton Powell, Lavon Fowler (Henry), Mary Lou Tyus (George), Joe Powell, John Powell, and her grandson, Lucas Courtney.
Cora is survived by her children, Marla (Luke) Courtney, Phil (Crystal) Winget, Bradley (Chrissie) Winget, Jonathan (Kim) Strickland, Jason (Dani) Strickland; grandchildren, Ashton (Kasi) Calvin, Austin (Allison) Winget, Carissa Winget, Jack Strickland, Ella Strickland, Caty (Jared) Starr, Blaine Tharpe, Blake Tharpe; great-grandchildren, Kash and Kaya Calvin, Emmitt and Adelaide Starr; Marlee and Maverick Tharpe; and her sisters-in-law, Dianne and Gloria Powell.
Funeral services will be 2 PM, Monday, January 5, 2026, at Welcome Assembly of God Church, 6794 Messer Road, Grand Ridge, FL 32442, with Pastors Steven Subel and Aaron Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:30 prior to the service.
