Sam Jack Pettyjohn, Jr., 83 passed away peacefully at home in Perry, Georgia on Tuesday, March 3, 2026

Jack was born on October 13, 1942, in Marianna, Florida to the late Sam Jack Pettyjohn Sr and the late Margaret (Grace) Pettyjohn. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the United States Coast Guard, exemplifying dedication and patriotism. Following the military, Jack attended culinary school at FSU. Jack went on to be the Chief Appraiser for Camden, Glynn and Charlton Counties, serving with integrity and professionalism until he retired.

Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He shared a loving marriage with his beloved wife, Cheryl (Gnagy) Pettyjohn just celebrating their 26th anniversary. He was a diehard fan of the Seminoles, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his team. He was an avid golfer and proudly holds the highest number of holes in one (10) in his community golf club.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Cheryl Pettyjohn; his sons Sam Jack Deslover (Melissa) of Kingsland, Ga; Roy Capps (Raquel) of Mont Belvieu, Tx; Ryan Higgins (Irene) of Cameron, La; his daughters, Molly Pettyjohn of Waynesboro, Va, Gracie McLendon (Rob) of Bainbridge, Ga; Kimberly Williams (James). 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; and his brother, William Thad Pettyjohn of Climax, Ga. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Helen Trulock Pettyjohn.

Jack will be remembered for his steadfast character, deep love for his family, and his lifelong commitment to service. His legacy of devotion and strength will live on in the many lives he touched.

With honor, Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
