Cordell James Peters

Charles "Cordell" James Peters, left this earth peacefully and unexpectedly in Roseburg, Oregon and went to be with his eternal Father on January 16, 2023.
He was born in Bishop, California to Jessie and Jack James on December 17, 1954 and was later adopted by Sharon Stutzman and Charles Peters. He grew up in Aberdeen, Washington where he developed his love for the outdoors. He attended North Beach Junior Senior High School (class of 1974) and ran track and lettered in wrestling and football. He enlisted in the army shortly after, creating friendships with everyone he met. After getting out of the army he worked for Boise Cascade for many years. Later Cordell married his wife, Rebecca Peters in December, 1977 in Aberdeen Washington and raised 5 children. They moved to Ramona California later getting a divorce in 1990.
He met and married Julie Parkinson in October 1993 in Ramona California, with whom they raised 3 children. In November 1994 they moved to Bountiful Utah where he worked for Paulsen Construction. In April 1996 Charles legally changed his name to Cordell. In 2002 Cordell built his entire home himself in Herriman Utah. During that time, they also owned Riverside Motel and RV Park in Hatch Utah. During those years so many special memories were made. He had a deep love for animals and he enjoyed his cows, chickens, cats, dogs and training his horses. From 2006-2009 he provided free labor for repairs and upgrades to churches around the Salt Lake valley. In 2010 he moved to Heber Utah and worked for Heber Appliance. His world changed in 2013 when he became a papo, and they became his entire world. Many memories and traditions were made with his grandkids over the years. Cordell and Julie divorced in 2019. That same year he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, going into remission in 2020. He retired August 2022 from Heber appliance and moved to Roseburg Oregon in the Pacific Northwest where his heart always longed to be.
Cordell was a cowboy at heart. You would rarely see him without his cowboy hat on. He was known as "Cowboy" to many. He found great joy and peace being outside - fishing, hunting, and caring for his lawn. His grass was always lush green after countless hours of hand watering. He always said that was his prayer and meditation time. Cordell was also a devoted Christian, spending his life and so many hours serving others in and out of the church and maintaining a loving relationship with his father Jesus. He served in the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. Cordell was gifted in his ability to build or fix anything and was always willing to share his talents with everyone around him. He was a very hands-on dad and coached his kids many sports teams and taught them very special life lessons. His grandkids were his first love, his second love was popcorn. He wouldn't share popcorn with anyone but them.
He is survived by his children, Ashley (Bryce) Rizley, Caleb Peters, Jared (Julie) Peters, Tonya Peters, David Schimelpfenig, Chris Williamson, Adam Williamson; Grandkids, Carter Rizley, Hudson Rizley, Jade Rizley, Kurt Peters, Layne Peters, Marley Peters, Austin Peters, Caleb Schimelpfenig, Liberty Schimelpfenig, Skyla Schimelpfenig, David Jr. Schimelpfenig, Jayne Schimelpfenig; Great grandkids, Sawyer Peters and Abel Peters; Sister, Chris Hendrix, Marsha Ratliff, 5 step sisters; Nieces, Cynthia Jordan, Janice Coates, Victoria Hodge; Nephew, Michael Geesen; and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his mom, Sharon Stutzman and son, Jason Peters.
