Corey Rees Obituary

Corey Denton Rees

1942 - 2025

Corey Denton Rees passed away at his home in Ogden, Utah, two weeks after his 83rd birthday and after many years struggling so valiantly with multiple health issues.

Corey was born on February 3rd, 1942, the youngest child of Theodore Gomer and Pearl McAllister Rees. His strong bond with his father nurtured a lifelong love of baseball, which started by attending games together and playing on teams as a child, while his father umpired them. He carried this love of the game forward by coaching his sons and many neighborhood children.

He was extremely proud of his Scottish heritage and was honored to serve a mission to Scotland and Wales for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Corey was a staunch member of the Church and considered his testimony of his Savior as his most prized possession. He never hesitated to serve in any capacity asked of him and did so with enthusiasm and full determination.

After returning home from his mission, Corey recognized his eternal love for Karen Madsen, the sister of his best friend, and they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on July 6th, 1965. In almost 60 years together, Corey and Karen raised their six children to work hard, love each other, and love the Lord. They loved their children dearly, and their joy multiplied with the birth of each of their eleven grandchildren, filling them with immeasurable pride. Corey thrived on the stories and hugs his grandchildren brought with each visit. He promised to always watch over them, no matter where he might be.

A patriot at heart, Corey served in the Air National Guard of Utah and the Reserve of the United States Air Force for several years during the early part of his marriage and often expressed regret for not serving longer.

Corey is survived by his wife, Karen; his six children, Scott (Yuko), Trent (Jenniffer), Wendi, Ryan (Taylor), Cheryl (Jason), Steven (Karen), and the most amazing 11 grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Intermountain Hospice team that provided such extraordinary care for Dad and support to the family in his last week. Thanks to their help, Dad's final week was peaceful, dignified, and filled with love.

Services for Corey will be held on Friday, February 28th, with a viewing from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Larkin Mortuary, located at 260 E South Temple St., Salt Lake City. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 1st, at 11 am at Larkin Mortuary, with a viewing to be held 45 minutes prior to the service. Interment to follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. For those unable to attend, services will be streamed via Zoom. Please visit Corey's obituary page at www.larkinmortuary.com for information.

I have sweet memories of his smile and love he had for everyone in the family. I am from the younger grandkids and remember when we had reunions at my grandmother and grandfather´s house in Mount Pleasant, time spent with family and Corey was there with his sweet wife Karen. I hope all the wonderful memories of your time with you father, grandfather , cousin and friend sustain you through this difficult time as you celebrate his life.

Karen, you and Corey have always been the best friends ever. I have enjoyed many moments with you two, especially when you lived next door to me and Dale. Dale passed away 17 years ago and I know how hard it is to lose your husband. Corey was such a fun and kind person. We all had many good laughs together. I am sending much love to you and know that you will be given strength and courage to get through these difficult moments.

We sure loved Corey and will miss him very much! He was always kind and had a fun sense of humor. He really did handle his health issues well! His focus always seemed to be on lifting others rather than focusing on his trials. He was awesome and we are so grateful for the time we could spend with him. We love you all and send hugs and prayers during this heartbreaking time!
