**Obituary for Corey Daniel Sutherland**
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Corey Daniel Sutherland, who left us too soon on June 8, 2025, at the tender age of 16. Born on February 24, 2009, in Durham, North Carolina, Corey was a beacon of light to all who knew him. He is survived by his loving family: his parents, Daniel and Stephanie Sutherland, his siblings Ryan and Amelia, and a dear friend, Hunter Habeckar.
Corey was a curious and energetic young man, traits that defined his vibrant personality. Although his time with us was brief, he lived life to the fullest, always seeking out new adventures. He was known for his love of music and often could be found listening to his favorite tracks, which provided the soundtrack to his joyful spirit. His passion for the outdoors was undeniable-whether fishing or biking through the picturesque landscapes of Durham, Corey embraced each experience with enthusiasm.
A recent student at Durham High School, Corey also attended South Durham Middle School, where he demonstrated his leadership skills as the Student Council Treasurer. His peers and teachers alike appreciated his contributions, and he made an impact that will not be forgotten by those whose lives he touched.
Corey's zest for life made every moment spent with him memorable; there was truly never a dull moment. His laughter and joy were infectious, and the warmth he radiated will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Corey's life on June 12th, 2025, at Smiths Funeral Home, located at 7869 Lastin Drive, Durham, NC.
In this time of sorrow, the family welcomes all donations, prayers, and gifts in memory of Corey. These gestures of support will remind us of the love and joy he brought into our lives and will help honor his legacy.
May Corey rest in peace, forever remembered in the hearts of those he touched.
