Corinne Buchbinder Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home - Farmington on Mar. 14, 2026.
Corinne Susan Buchbinder, age 80, passed away on March 12, 2026, in Farmington Hills, Michigan, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was born on August 29, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, to Hank and Elsie (Muehlbrandt) Gavie. Corinne grew up on Lake St. Clair in Harrison Township, where she developed a lifelong love of the water and boating. She later lived for many years in Macomb before eventually residing in Farmington Hills.

Corinne was a devoted stay-at-home mother while her children were young and was very active in the PTA and other school activities for her kids. She was a deeply involved mom who attended all of her kids' school and sporting functions and knew all of their friends.

After her children were older, Corinne worked as a legal secretary until her retirement in 2005. Following retirement, she kept busy by serving on the board of directors at her condominium complex for several years.

Corinne enjoyed a full and active life. More than 50 years ago, she started a card club with friends that met monthly to play pinochle, a tradition that continued for many decades. She loved spending time on the water, reading, traveling, knitting, and gathering with friends. She began every morning with coffee and the crossword puzzle and was known for knitting baby sweaters for friends and family. Corinne enjoyed traveling and visited Europe multiple times, as well as Hawaii and Alaska. Her faith was very important to her, and she participated in a Bible study at her church, Immanuel Lutheran, and took part in a mission trip to Brazil. She also loved cats and shared her home with many over the years, including Rosie, her beloved and constant companion during her time in assisted living.

Corinne was known for her dry sense of humor and, in her later years, a feisty spirit that often kept those around her on their toes. Even during her time in assisted living, she had a way of making the staff laugh and bringing humor to everyday moments. Her family and friends will remember her quick wit, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Derick Buchbinder (April); her daughter, Bridget Millar (Mike); her sister, Jenneth Nunnally (Bob Scherer); and her grandchildren, Bryce Buchbinder (Tacey), Mandy Millar, Melanie Millar, and Megan Millar.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hank and Elsie Gavie.

A memorial service will be held in early May at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 47120 Romeo Plank Rd, Macomb, Michigan, with the date to be announced. Please check the website for updated service information.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in her name to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Please keep the Buchbinder family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
