Corinne Dobbins Gibson, 105, passed away peacefully at home in
Ozona, Texas. Corinne was born November 13th, 1920 in
Sagerton, Texas to Martha Eldorado McKinley Dobbins and Starrett Turner Dobbins.
Corinne was the oldest of 5 children and grew up on a farm near Sagerton. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class in 1939. On December 16th, 1939, Corinne married Millard Hiram Gibson and moved to Hale Center, Texas to begin her life as a farmer's wife. They welcomed daughter Rosalind in 1943 and daughter Beth in 1947.
Corinne was an extraordinary person. Her childhood was full of love, laughter, and a lot of hard work. She was a gifted story teller and often painted such a vivid scene of hler early life. Their days were spent helping her parents in the fields and helping with household chores. Friends and family were lucky to hear so many amazing stories that stretched over an entire century. From Model-T cars, growing their food, sewing their clothes to supermarkets, wifi, and air conditioning, Corinne witnessed it all, and adapted well to each decade.
She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in
Hale Center, Tx from 1939 until moving in 2018, where she joined the First Baptist Church in Ozona. During her years in church, Corrine has volunteered teaching VBS, taught in Training Union, organized the first Girls' Auxiliary, and took them to summer camp each year. She was active in Baptist Women as a Mission Study Leader, and taught a ladies Sunday School class, only passing the baton after her 100th birthday. She continued to host a Bible Study in her home until she was 103 years old. Corinne's knowledge of the Bible, her faithful study of her Bible, and her devotion to God was inspiring to say the least.
Corinne taught special needs children for many years. These children were very special to her, and a mutual love was shared. She also taught ESL classes for adults desiring to learn English. After retiring, she volunteered at the Mission Hale Center, forming personal, caring relationships with the shoppers who visited, many of which were former students. She was a long serving Board Member for the Hale County Farm and Ranch Museum. She really enjoyed her time improving the Museum.
Corinne is preceded in death by her parents, husband Millard, daughters Rosalind Williams and Beth Rumbaugh, brother Marvin Dobbins, sister Ramona Estill, and son in law Bill Williams. She is survived by her sisters, Ira Miller of Ozona and Lois Tuner of Clifton, son in law Jackie Rumbaugh of Lubbock, grandchildren Candace Williams of Chicago, Il, Christopher Rumbaugh of Lubbock, Slate and Heidi Williams of Ozona, Joshua Rumbaugh of Big Lake, great-grandchildren: Sterling, Lawson, Liberty, Lundyn, and Lucien.
